Title: Next release improvements list
Post by Fly from Utah on Jul 20th, 2014 at 1:00am
Just a post of all the things wanted for next release, if you have others please add to the list.
1. Seat belt sign in EICAS
2. Speedbrake extended sign whenever it is used for drag purposes
3. Option to change background color for PFD,(lighter-darker)
4. Fix VNAV on final approach, I know this is Tech issue, but had to put it somewhere :D

Well after a month with zero replies I would have to assume CS has just about got this one perfected.  ;)

Accept for the chronometer!  :-/

A new challenge - B788 next please, surely a lot of the lessons learned here can be put to use in a new product, IMHO.

I agree....PLEASE FIX THE A/C CLOCK!

There's no way anyone could call this perfected until the aircraft can follow a localizer accurately. And this isn't currently the case.

Is it really that hard to fix the clocks? I just can't believe it should take this long to fix them. V1.4 was released and the problem goes unsolved. I wont give up, not yet, but this problem is driving me crazy. >:(

I want to add one more to my improvements list. When I pause the aircraft sometimes when unpausing it, it seems to go out of control. Changing altitudes so fast that it sometimes stalls and it is hard to recover because it just keeps doing it over again. I thinks this in conjunction with other software maybe, just not sure. :-/

I get that too.

Ya, that problem need to be solve after unpause.

However I expect for more accurate localizer, and LNAV. I'm strugging with ILS landing that not line up at the centre but to the side, sometime the aircraft is not even line up with runway and need to abort landing.

This is a minor one to add to the list. Has anybody seen the windscreen wipers work on INT? I have been through some rain showers and never seen them swipe once. :-/

I don't bother using the wipers because the rain doesn't appear on the windscreen in FSX. I sure wish that MS had kept it though, because it was a nice feature in FS9/FS2004. :(

I totally agree with you!

This is my last wish for the next release, might be wishful thinking or mission impossible. Make it compatible with ASN. If ASN has some proprietary software coded in it, just for the other T7, then their might be no hope. Since they released it as an FSX product addon, this might not be the issue. All reasonable issues can be fixed with the right resources($$$). Our product is priced just right for us working class hobbyist, so it might not be feasible. I do have hope. 8-)

Not sure what you mean ASN compatible, but I saw that the other 777 can now import winds aloft making FMC calculations for ETA and fuel much closer to what they could be.

ASN is integrated into their application. It's part of their program. :-/

I don't think I would say that ASN is "integrated" into the other 777:

ASN is the first weather addon to output an external 3D precipitation model, which we’ve used to accurately model the operation of the radar. The weather radar does not currently function with default FSX weather or with any other weather addon.

Without ASN, its WXR is INOP! ;D

Guessing that their package is not bundled, ASN being a separate price.
I will rephrase, it is an integral part of their system. :D

I like the 777 and all (especially after I tweaked the cfg for proper load stations and to get the jetway to mid cabin door for my own use - not for anyone else  sorry   copyrights and all) but update 1.4 has made it so frame rate heavy my little DuoCore just can't run it any more.

Pretty sad.   Even with a brand new GTX 750 Ti graphics card best I am getting is 5-9 fps.   Oh yeah if I turn scenery down to nothing and all traffic off and forget the weather it will work.   But what's the point?  I have a pretty decent simulator set up and other programs work just fine.   We fly in the real world with winds and clouds and other planes so the SIMULATOR should be able to bring all that to life as well as the plane.

Previous version before 1.4 was much more frame rate friendly and I didn't see all that many new features fixes that warranted losing the playability of the software.   Wish I could go back to the other one but each update erases the previous version.      Sigh.   :'(

So my improvement suggestion is to bring back the frame rates please.  Sometimes "less is more".

Why do you delete the older installers? I keep all of mine, for all my addon aircraft, that way, if I don't like an updated version, I can revert to an older version that I do like.

Unlike you, I find that the 777 v1.4 has a better frame rate than I got in v1.3, so I don't know why you are seeing the opposite. :(

Doing more research at the moment - I thought it was my graphics cards going bad and I was very bummed that it performed the same with the new one (GTX 750 Ti has made everything else perform better).   Will keep you posted on results.  I ran Hardware Monitor and am seeing both CPU cores are pegged against the stops at 100% so something is making them work way too hard (thus producing low frame rates).

I delete old versions to prevent any conflicts from occurring.   FSX is a fickle little Diva and my dedicated FSX machine is kept clean of unused files.  Delete, reboot, install, reboot .....  keeps files nice and tidy and processor purring along happily.    But you make a valid point I should be moving them to an external drive to save before deleting.   No bonus points for that oversight on my part.    8-)

Just occurred to me it might a bad download.  I have satellite internet which is pretty slow, so I'll get a new download and wipe things clean, reboot and load the new one, leave the extra liveries off and try JUST the default liveries first before putting Delta texture back into FSX.

Moderator:  sorry this is getting off topic and into trouble shooting, won't drag it further away from suggestion box it is supposed to be.

I find one CPU core is always (or nearly always) running at 100% when I'm using FSX. FSX is CPU intensive, so it is no surprise that I see that. I'm not sure why you are seeing two CPU cores running at 100% though (or maybe I haven't noticed the second one when I run the task manager :o). Did mess with the fsx.cfg, like the Bajote's tweak?

I would absolutely love this to have a pause at TOD feature. For me, that is all that is missing. Kudos on the nice work.

Yeah. It would be a great feature to include. ;)

Hi,
Especially when panning around in the VC or outside the aircraft, the remaining 5 cores of my CPU come to live and hit 100% for quite some time (especially after FTX Vector and Open Landclass EU, they will be at 100% even with no panning). I have cars and ships reduced to nothing, and very low traffic.
So, I would say that a dual core CPU and a gtx750 is not really enough with modern addons like the CS777 in FSX.

I don't know. I have only ever notice a single core reach 100% when using FSX. :-/

Title: Re: Next release improvements list
Post by Cappy on Oct 8th, 2014 at 6:04am
Really?
FSX is able to use 256 cores.

When scenery is loading I see all 8 cores pegged and at 5GHz.

As I understand it cores 1-7 handle scenery loading while core0 handles the games physics so it takes most of the heavy lifting.

On my 3770k system if I enable Hyperthreading it actually slows down whereas the AMD 9590 will use everything FSX throws at it.

I think it was the FSX sp1 patch that introduced multicore, it's not as good as it could be as Aces were closed down soon after.

To be honest, I don't have anything that displays how many cores are in use, nor at what % they are being used, when I'm running FSX. But I have opened the Task Manager and looked at the PERFORMANCE tab a number of times only to see a single core running at 100% when I'm flying FSX. Maybe it's because I always run FSX in Windowed Mode. :-/

Mark - then you're looking at the right thing. You're seeing both things (number of processor cores and percentage (although represented in graph form)).

I think in the post above, Cappy meant to say 256 threads, not cores.

Title: Re: Next release improvements list
Post by Cappy on Oct 10th, 2014 at 3:12am
No I did mean cores.

Can't remember the guys name now Phil Taylor maybe?? was saying when the patch came out it could theoretically use that many.
I don't know anyone who would however!

But still it's all limited by core0.

EDIT Here is the quote.

"As far as practical limits on number of usable cores; currently SetThreadAffinityMask only allows explicit scheduling of threads on 32 cores ( the mask is a dword ) on Win32. So thats our effective limit on number of cores. But as soon as there is a way to explicitly schedule them, we can handle 256 cores."

It probably adds more confusion than anything.  ;)
Also I think it would be a Microsoft requirement to have to use Windows Server to access >32??

Mark try running task manager on top when you are loading into a new location, you should see it light up then. Are you running with HT off?

Could maybe also be related to the cfg settings? I have Fiber_Frame_Time_Fraction=0.4, allowing more CPU power to load stuff, and also increased Load_Radius to 5.5, minimizing blurries. Could force FSX to use more cores?

Hi Raymond,
Thank you for the advice.
I do not put more money into this rig, as I'm planning a complete Haswell  rebuild. What holds me back are two small kids in the family, leaving little time to pc building, let alone simming..
Secondly, as it still runs FSX pretty well, I'm not in a hurry. Task manager shows that RAM usage rarely goes above 3GB.

file folder option  for EFB. 20 big aiports and each of them with 8 SID's. It need a lot of time to scroll.

@Prophet
(1) I'm looking into making the management of IFR charts more manageable in the EFB, so one doesn't have to scroll very much.
PM me if you're interested in this idea, I would like to hear your thoughts on it.

(2) Where in the manual (I can't find it) does it tell me what hot keys popup the various instrument panels such as CDU, PFD, MCP, etc.

(3) Can we edit SimIcons? This is a pretty neat feature but I'd like to be able to customize it. Can we do that?

Thanks...

(2) AFAIK it isn't listed in the manuals. But they are as follows:

SHIFT+1 = N/A
SHIFT+2 = Simicons
SHIFT+3 = Animations
SHIFT+4 = EFB
SHIFT+5 = DSP
SHIFT+6 = EFIS
SHIFT+7 = CDU
SHIFT+8 = MCP
SHIFT+9 = Radio

(3) Yes you can. Open panel.cfg and you can make any changes you like to  the [Window03] entry. You do this at your own risk though. ;) Mind you, I often modify the 2D panels, but that's only to reduce the size of them. :o
