Title: Voice Package
Post by Trailboss on Jan 20th, 2014 at 10:10pm
I have read all 3 manuals, read every SSO entry in the forum and read every item in the SSO KB, but I can't find the answer.  The manuals state that there is a voice package with 19 recordings, but the recordings never play.  I understand that while in slew mode everything is silent, and when passing 82K the wind noise and frame groaning start, but I never get the voice transmissions.  I have uninstalled and re-installed the SSO twice, but that has no affect. I confirmed that the voice package is installed in the file FSX>Captain_Sim>sso and the wave files and sound.cfg file are there. I made sure the sound is turned on and the realism sound settings are normal. I'm running FSX with Acceleration. Please explain how I activate the voice package.

To hear them, you need to modify the sound.cfg (found in the FSX\Captain_Sim\sso folder).

Change this:

[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\sso\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

to this:

[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\sso\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

These entries are the first entries in the file, so you won't need to search for them. ;)

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the instructions, with your input the voice package is working now.  I knew the problem had to be in the cfg file as it relates to the wav files in Captain_Sim>sso but I wouldn't have guessed 0 was the correct value for the line item.

Now to learn how to control this lead sled...

Yeah. It turns out that this problem is the same as the sound problem for the CS 727. So being familiar with the 727 problem made it was easy (for me anyway) to simply "give it a try", and I found that it worked.

If you do the same thing that I do when I first start it a lengthy time time not having flown it, then you will forget that you must push the joystick throttle fully forward or the "air brakes" deploy. This always causes me to crash on the first few flights. ::) ;)
