Title: 777-200 RR Liveries?
Post by SQPilot773 on Aug 18th, 2013 at 10:57am
I was just wondering and wanted to ask whether someone is doing any RR repaints? Like American Airlines or Singapore Airlines

I was wondering the same thing, I keep checking the usual websites to see if someone had made one yet. I'd really like to see a Delta 200ER RR.

I don't think, that at this time anyone will make a RR Paint...
There is already a 777-200 paint.
MODERATOR: had to delete the comment. Did not expect it from you.

It makes no difference to me, but just wondering if american airlines like AA or Delta use RR engines. As far as I know, they all use P&W or GE.

Uhhh.... It makes a huge difference to me and I like flying with engine accurate aircraft. Also (I think) AA and (I KNOW this for a fact) and Delta launched there 777s with RR engines.

I don't think EVERYONE is flying with the "other" 777 yet. For one thing, "the other" states that it will not work with Windows 8. CS's does. That is a severe drawback with those who have a new computer with the default OS as W8.

Maybe I'm being dumb but is it possible to convert Dave Sweetman CS 77-200 BA Landor repaint which is for a B777-200 to work on the CS 777-200ER RR.
With my minimal PC skills I've tried converting it without success. Naturally if I'd succeeded I would have contacted Dave to inform him.

Yes you can. I use Marcelo Veneziale's 777-200 (GE) Qantas livery on the 777-200ER_GE, 777-200ER_RR and 777-200LR! I'm not sure if you need to change anything to do this, but if you do, it's only the texture for the engines (cs777_6_T.DDS). It is done by copying the texture at the bottom half of the file and pasting it to the top half of the file, then saving it. I used DXTBmp.exe to do that - You can download it from here: http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/download/dxtbmpx.EXE.

Why would you want to? It's way overpriced, buggy and a crock compared to the CS version.  ;)

Yes I think we need more RR paints as well, flying BA with GE engines doesn't feel right.

I converted Marcelo Fabian Veneziale's Air New Zealand 777GE to 777RR by copying the file cs777_6_T.dds from CS's 777RR Malaysia Airlines to the ANZ texture folder (don't forget texture.cfg). Unlike Mark I didn't photoshoped anything... too lazy... Same with Brian Robinson's 777LR American Airlines (both are in the CS livery library). It works because AA, ANZ and Malaysia have their engines painted grey. For British Airways obviously it will need more work...

Happy New Year!

The greyer engines don't suit the Air New Zealand livery. I edited the cs777_6_T.dds file for the QANTAS RR livery for exactly that reason. ;D

Happy New Year Mark! Yes you're right the ANZ 777 RR engines are not grey, but not quite snow white either... something in between...

Just make sure you know that the GE engine model is bigger than the RR model. You have to paint the RR model to be correct. ::)

Markoz,

I am interested in converting the supplied RR engine texture with CS777 to other liveries, particularly BA. Please will you provide a little more explanation for how this is done, using the DXTBmp tool?

Title: Re: 777-200 RR Liveries?
Post by Markoz on Jul 6th, 2014 at 3:33pm
All I did was open the cs777_6_T.DDS with DXTBmp.exe (ALT > Image > Send to Editor (which is MSPaint.exe)), copied the lower half of the image (the top half was blank), then pasted it back in the top half. I saved the changes, then reloaded them into DXTBmp.exe (ALT > Image > Reload after Edit). Then I save the modified cs777_6_T.DDS.
This was back in v1.1/1.2, but in v1.4, I don't need to do this, but the engines look more like GE engines, than RR engines, and the Qantas Flying Kangaroo is on the outer side of the left engine, but the inner side of the right engine, so I'm not using the Qantas livery for the RR variant any more. I do not remember it looking like that in the earlier version, but I might not have been looking closely enough back then!

Thanks for the explanation, Mark.

After a bit of digging around I did actually manage to find an excellent BA livery of the 777-200 RR on the internet resplendent in the correct BA engine livery without further ado (G-YMMN). Unfortunately, I don't think this has been posted on any of the forum's libraries to reach a wider audience. I may ask the author if he would kindly do so at some stage.

Hi mrcapetown,

Livery for G-YMMN (BA 777-200 RR) can be found on the dropbox  link sent to your PM message area in the Captainsim forum.

I do not recall the originator of the livery, but to my knowledge he has not posted it on any of the forum libraries, which is a shame.

P.S. Managed to see G-YMMH trailblazing this evening on route to JFK from Heathrow!
