Title: Wingtip Strobes
Post by Brian Neuman on Feb 25th, 2013 at 9:35pm
Good morning,

I have conducted a search and maybe I missed the post if there is one. Is there anyway to disable the white strobes as they are connected to the NAV lights? It is not right in a real sense and if there is not a separate switch, I just assume disable the white strobes completley. Am I missing something? Thank you.

I think that most of the lights, including the Strobe Lights, are coded into the model (MDL file) itself and not in the aircraft.cfg file, so I don't think you can remove them without modifying the MDL file.

Yeah, I was kind of afraid of that. Oh well, I guess I will just have to live with it.

As I see it, the strobe lights are connected to the red beacon on top of the fuselage but can be switched on and off independently of the wingtip
navigation lights.
So you can have red and green lights on the wingtips alone, strobe lights alone or neither or both.
Is this incorrect?

The Beacon light switch controls both the Beacon Lights AND the Strobe Lights. So I can have:
(1) NAV Lights only ON (NAV Light Switch ON)
(2) Strobe and Beacon Lights only ON (Beacon Light Switch ON)
(3) NAV Lights AND the Strobe Lights AND Beacon Lights ON (NAV Light Switch ON and Beacon Light Switch ON)

Isn't that what I said?
My question was is that how they work in the real world
or can the beacon on top of the fuselage be switched
independently of the strobes?

Unless I have misunderstood, Mr Neuman thinks that the navigation lights and strobes are linked to each other, when, in fact, they are not.

That was in fact my mistake. It is hooked up to the red beacons. In real life, no this does not happen. The strobes and the rotating (red) beacons are sepearte and it should not be like this.
