Title: Helicopter door gunner?
Post by Airtrooper on Jan 4th, 2013 at 11:32am
I'd like to be able to fire the M60 or other machine gun (e.g. 50 cal etc.) from the door gunners position in a helicopter (e.g. the Merlin)...

Is it possible to fire from this viewpoint in FSX?

Can the gun swivel from this viewpoint?

Would this work in multiplayer (i.e. with someone else flying the helicopter) or with FS Recorder?

Many thanks

Andy

You would need to mess around with the CSWeapon.xml to get the correct angle/direction of fire. BUT. They will be a fixed angle/direction, you can't have them moving.

It is described like this in the CSWeapon.xml file:

<Station name="Nose" params="0,9,0,0,-0.039,0,200" />
<!-- Station position (x,y,z) meters, angle of incidence, ammo units quantity -->

In the above station, the guns are angle up at about 3.9 degrees. It gets confusing that a negative number is up, but messing around with them, you will get more familiar with the way they are.

This one is from my A2A WOP3 Spitfire mod:

<Station name="Left Wing Outer" params="-4.0,0,-0.5,0,-0.017,0,200" />

As you can see, I reduced the angle to 1.7 degrees, so they were lining up the gunsight.

In multiplayer with both players having Weapon for FSX? Possibly (but you can't shoot others players down). I have no idea how well it would record in FS Recorder, but you might be able to shoot the another aircraft down.
