Title: Ailerons
Post by Jazz777 on Aug 29th, 2012 at 1:36pm
Hi. I was doing a visual approach at Hong Kong Kai Tak. When I disengage the Autopilot, the aircraft starts banking left ( mostly occurs in other airports ). It occurs 2 secs before turning. It keeps on banking on the left that I lost control and crash at the taxiway. Pls help fix the problem! :'(

check your fuel balance settings, I wanted 40% fuel in my wings on a flight and I acidentally hit 400 on the left wing, which casued it to go to 100% fuel and that caused excess weight on the left side, and a huge inbalance

Actually there was no fuel imbalance during the approach. I only took a short flight from RPLL( Manila, Philipines ) to VHHX( Hong Kong Kai Tak ). And the aircraft burned only 8% of fuel and I always check the fuel's quantity every waypoint I pass like real world pilots do. And don't worry, I very good at maths. :D

I'm a bit confused with your fuel used. If you left RPLL with full tanks and used only 8%, then the burn would have been about 6,200 lbs of fuel. You should have used somewhere around 11,500 lbs of fuel (15%).

Also, why would you take-off with full tanks anyway? Your fuel load should be about 20,000 to 25,000 lbs for a 650nm flight.

Are your passengers and cargo fully loaded also?

Your aircraft may be too heavy for the approach speed you were using. Were you landing at the correct Vref speed for flaps 20, 25, or 30?

Actually I did another flight( same ) and actually before I start flying, I always insert an accurate fuel load around 18.500-19.000lbs. And this time, the aircraft burned more fuel and there was 68 passengers and 4 cargoes. the weather was stormy so I used flaps 25 and I add 5 knots for the approach just for in case for strong winds. and the same thing happened again and this time I crash at the airport. ( I did the same flight yesterday( passengers, cargo, fuel, weather is the same as before) to see if it's happening again. I tried with other aircrafts and there were no problem at all.)  :-?

How are you disengaging the autopilot? With the 'disengage bar', the keyboard shortcut 'Z', or pressing 'LNAV'?
Also, how much wind during landing? Was there a cross wind?

I press Z to disengage the autopilot. And there was tailwind during approach around 16 knots( not a big deal ). :P

I almost always do an Autoland, that way I do not need to turn the A/T and A/P off. I hate to think of how many times I have overshot a unway by forgetting to turn the A/T off. Where the heck is my FO when I need him? Oh yeah. I have to buy a new headset and Multi Crew Experience! Rats. :D

16 knot tailwind! That's quite a bit of wind! You must have a pretty strong crosswind too.

Maybe you could try another flight with no winds just to see if anything different happens.

I'm telling you! It's not a big deal >:(. mostly I add some wind in fsx just for fun. And there were no problems with other aircrafts. But even without winds. The 757 stills keep on banking to the left or sometimes to the right. :(

I understand that it is 'no big deal >:(', I myself have tried to land with winds that strong and it was quite challenging :o

I'm only trying to offer possible solutions to you  ;)

At this point I can not think of anything else to suggest to you other than to possibly un-install and then reinstall the aircraft.
I have never experience the banking left or right after an autopilot disconnect that you are describing:(

Ok I'll try. :)

Well........... It doesn't work anything and the aircraft keeps on banking to the left or to the right. But maybe I just keep on flying becuz you guys can't solve my problem. But it's okay. I'll try to adjust to this problem try to solve it myself ;).

Have you tried disconnecting the autopilot a bit earlier and manually flying the approach?

Mark,

I watched many a perfect autoland in the simulator as an instructor only to see the plane leave the pavement during the turn off the runway because the pilot did not disconnect the auto-throttles and lifted his hand off the throttles to do something else and the power advanced.
Also, there were times the pilot would move the reverse thrust to idle during roll out and keep it at idle reverse during the turn off the runway. If they lifted their hand off the reverse levers to do something, the levers would slowly move into forward thrust and accelerate. I can tell you it was eye opening!   :o

The solution, which is missing in the CS model, is to hit the red disconnect button on the yoke instead of the disconnect bar. The bar only disconnects the autopilots - something very necessary to steer the plane off the center line. Pushing the red button on the yoke disconnects everything!

I have had the A/T fail to disconnect after landing, but only a couple of times. By the time I figured out what was going on, I was off the end of the runway. I think I killed all my passengers. :(
But they say that any landing you walk away from is a good landing. Well I walked away from them. [smiley=evil.gif]
