Hi, the load and volt selector is just used to show the loads and volts in different systems so it doesn't matter which one you display. I usually keep it on ESS TR as you want to make sure you are generating enough power through that system.

The battery switch in all aircraft is basically you electrical on/off switch so yes, you need to keep it on the whole time until you park for the night  :)
