Title: Captain Sim 747-2/300 ?!
Post by captjames on Jul 6th, 2012 at 8:11am
Ladies and gentlemen,
Apologies if this has already been spoken about, but I was just thinking and....I feel that theres a family of aircraft thats been missed out...SHOCKINGLY! and well it's got to be the B747-2/300 series. you've got the whole Boeing family (well pretty much) and missed out this truly amazing aircraft!  I would beg yourselves to consider this. As it appears the only Payware 747 2/300 is...well nearly freeware.

Ahh, the weekly thread on some new plane suggestions.  :D No offence intended, captjames. I'll support all suggestions on classic gauge airliners.  :)

Oh dear. Another topic about the 747-100/200, and we've barely finished the last one. ;D

No! If one mod per topic, i dont know if Boeing made this number of models  ;D
You said 4 mods, and there is more threads about 747 here  ;)

Well the SR and SP I could live without. But there's definitely a calling for the classic 747's

Everything in the Captain Sim line up/product list points at a 747...

its major, its wanted, its not really done "right" for FSX...others 400 is good but i know CS could do it better, especially after flying it and then seeing whats been happening with the CS737 and the CS777...and its a Boeing Aircraft ;)

every time I hit the horse I'm saying 747-100...747-200...747F :D etc.

IMO CS could add the classic and modern 747 family to the line up and be done adding new aircraft for a while and in the meantime update all the older versions...757, 727, 767 to their new standards and have a product list unrivaled in the flight-sim market.

staunch advocate

Im thinking how much money my airline could make in that freighter  :o
But first task would be to taxi it to runway, thats a hard task  ;D

Haha I can tell you when you first try to turn that thing. Your hands kill on the tiller! Very rewarding when you finally get lined up! 8-)

Capt'n James, may I call you Jim?

You have no idea how hard it is to taxi one of these,
until you do it on a dark and rainy night!

Oh, maybe you do... did you not fly these beauties?

Lou, You are the first person ever to offer, or indeed to call me Jim, so firstly, congratulations, secondly you may!

I used to fly for European Air Charter on their 747-236Bs out of Bournemouth Airport (EGHH/BOH)

Now I teach on the simulators for the same company.  As they now do MCC courses etc. Thats all that is left after the company went in Dec 2008.

Jim,

I too was an instructor on the 747 as well as the 727 & 707, both simulator and on the line. We had a 747 simulator in New York at KJFK and also used a wonderful simulator in Dallas, TX near the airport at the facility of Braniff Airlines. I also flew the plane on the line for several years. TWA had 747-100, -200 and SP's. The SP was the last 747 I flew before moving on to other planes. The 747 was a wonderful plane to fly, but alas it was a maintenance hog and needed to be near full to make money. I retired in 2005 (mandatory age 60) after almost 40 years with both TWA and American Airlines.

I would like very much to see CS come out with a 747 fleet, but I would like them to finish the up-grades on the ones they already have on line. The 727 and 707 are really fun old school planes so I would hope they can fix the little bugs that exist before moving on to something else.

Lou

I can only imagine.
There was an incident in Melbourne, Australia a few years ago with a United 747 (400??) when he unfortunately cut a corner a little too fine.
I can't recall how many wheels he put onto the grass but it wasn't many. The plane was stuck there for days.
Quite embarrasing for the pilot but I don't think too many people really understand how hard it would be.
A friend of my late father used to fly 747's for Cathay back in the 70's and I recall him saying that you had to be out over the opposite side of the runway before lining up. (the flightdeck that is)

I've heard the A340-600 is even worse!

i saw vids on youtube, that 777 have some external cameras. Why not to put some cameras to 747's gears, it could save some nerves  ;)

I agree with Lou to do a bug update on the 727 and 707 :)

Yes I do agree with that. Especially the 727. Being it up to the same standard as the 707.

But...

CS need to think of seriously considering a 747-1/200

How's that. Choppers in FSX are a bit strange. I guess FSX flight dynamics not good for em.

It makes perfect sense if you look at how the 737 was done and 777 is being done. Just remember that they might be planning to do the 757 v5.0 before they start on another project, so it could be even further away.

I'd love to recreate some BOAC 741 flights. But also have the retrofitted panels with ND's and FMC's that some 742's had.

Hey,
I think I read about your simulator in Bournemouth, the website is Jetsim methinks. I agree that this plane should have some retrofits in, I love it when classics have cool retrofits put in. I used the other pay ware 747-200 and I replaced the FMC, EHSI and VH. Isn't it BA fitted NAV displays and an FMC into the -200s? I assume Captjames you train the 747-200C at the simulator place. I believe there is a 737-200ADV too. I might go there sometime as I live in the UK.

As will I. However having lots of hours on this bird will mean I'll want. Dare I say it "PM*G level of detail".

And I am very lucky to have flown her!  Especially with the old RB211's

What that detail that can't do weather radar, can't open windows, can't enter the cabin/galley/toilet, can't move the seats kind of detail?
Shall I go on?

I can light a virtual cigarette in my 767. Captain was good enough to provide me with an ashtray.  ;)
What I really need is that sexy little hostess to bring a bottle or two of Dom Perignon.

BTW don't forget to bring your seat into the upright position and stow your tray table in preparation for landing. Any baggage that you might have removed should be placed back into the overhead bins.

And they say Captain Sim lacks detail?
In something a couple of years old what's more?  ::)

I tell you, making a Capt sim 747 would take 3 years with all the cabin, animation, gauges and everything else-it would be their biggest project yet! I think.

Well the only issue I have with CS is that although all buttons are clickable etc. there's no real affect. Go example by turning hydraulics off. The gear still go up and down. As for a cabin. That doesn't reall bother me. When I fly. I don't fly from the cabin.

I just find also some products can be 'buggy'. But
I think if anyone can produce a 747 Classic. CS can!  And if I can assist in anyway then I will.

I don't think that making gauges and all that would make any longer than making them for CS 707 took, really 747 doesn't have that much more gauges than any other airliner from same era. Yeah virtual Cabin would take a lot of time, but of course they wouldn't necessarily have to model complete cabin but just part of it like they did with their 757.

Keep in mind the Classic 747 has around 950 switches, that is far more than the 707, it will take a while, only one developer i can think of has exceeded that with the Concorde.

Ok didn't know that... But I wonder how many of them really are ones that are actually used in normal situations and have to be modeled to actually do something? Some of them surely can be just dummy switches.

Or CS could model a virtual FE like flight sim labs did for Concorde. For fuel transferring etc. because I can tell. In the 747 the FE has his work cut out I can tell you! :D
