Make sure that your climb is not that steep and your Flaps are not set at 15 degrees when you press the SPD button. At flaps 5, it will try for around 232 knots, and at flaps 1 it will be close to 250 knots. When I take off in the 767, I press the EPR button. Then above 200 feet AGL, I press CMD, VNAV then LNAV, so I don't have the problem that you are having. Do you use TOGA at the start, or do you use the throttle manually until a certain time before switching the A/T on?

Yes, I did have the TOGA mode engaged, But I decided to use the throttle manually on departure, I used to always use EPR on T/O but once I got in the air, it would engage the SPD HOLD and set the A/T to about 135-140 knots. I engaged the A/T at about 1-2,000' AGL, which is where it all went wrong. I saved my flight after I backed off the gate, so I'll try it again this weekend. I would try it earlier but it's an 8HR flight. (KMIA-SBGL)
