Title: Fatal flaws Post by NNewcomb on Mar 18th, 2012 at 5:25pm
For the second time, I have had errors that cause me to crash on departure.
I take off, engage the A/T and SPD hold (speed set to 250) , the plane then sets it to 208, engage LNAV and A/P and the plane says "Autopilot Disengaged" even though I had not engaged it, my first step altitude was 14,000FT, the plane set Vertical Speed to 4100. The plane started violently banking left, I turned off the autopilot and attempted to recover by the plane started stalling and was then uncontrollable so I just pressed ESC and ENTER. I had the same problem like this while using VNAV on departure once so I no longer use a VNAV departure, so I try and manual departure and it happened again. This NEEDS to be fixed ASAP. |

1) It does seem to turn the A/P on when you press the SPD button. 2) With the flaps at 15 degrees the A/T will try not to exceed 208 knots. 3) The VS will hold the VS your 767 is at when you press the SPD button. 4) HOLD is activated when you press the SPD button so the 767 will hold the current heading. Make sure that your climb is not that steep and your Flaps are not set at 15 degrees when you press the SPD button. At flaps 5, it will try for around 232 knots, and at flaps 1 it will be close to 250 knots. When I take off in the 767, I press the EPR button. Then above 200 feet AGL, I press CMD, VNAV then LNAV, so I don't have the problem that you are having. Do you use TOGA at the start, or do you use the throttle manually until a certain time before switching the A/T on? |

Yes, I did have the TOGA mode engaged, But I decided to use the throttle manually on departure, I used to always use EPR on T/O but once I got in the air, it would engage the SPD HOLD and set the A/T to about 135-140 knots. I engaged the A/T at about 1-2,000' AGL, which is where it all went wrong. I saved my flight after I backed off the gate, so I'll try it again this weekend. I would try it earlier but it's an 8HR flight. (KMIA-SBGL) |

I had this problem a while back. It is not a fun one to have. I think that the iossue is the cryptographic services.
If the same issues occur with the 757, and the autopilot starts rocking or cannot hold autopilot, it, even with service pack installed, then the cryptographic services are not working. Only way to sort it was by repairing Win7. This may not be the same problem I had, but I think it could be. Pete |
