Post by Turner9090 on Feb 21st, 2012 at 4:57pm
Hey everyone I just bought a dell xps 8300 i7 2600 (no K) with windows 7 and 16 gigs of RAM and a NVIDA GeForce gddr5 gt545 is this good for fsx and I'm not into any add-ons or over clocking the CPU or anything

             Thanks,
              Harrison
Ps oh and also I kinda want to grab the gold edition for the g1000 cockpit will this slow my fps significantly? All I'm putting on it is fsx and iTunes

I just got the same thing not long ago but with 12gb ram and it works fine...FSX Deluxe, everything Captain Sim, McPhat Paints, I recently got others 747 with Mcphat's WA3...again, works great but I hope CS does a new one. I haven't loaded any payware scenery yet but I want to try that next.

I do want the 16gb's eventually and a SSD with just enough space for fsx and the OS and that will do it for this PC of course, my next pc will be a overclocked beast for sure...I love dell but gotta move on at some point.

This new computer was a big step up for me, I had been waiting till I couldn't stand it anymore...I got my last desktop about 10 years ago, a Dell dimension 8200 2.4ghz P4 and 1gb RAM...needless to say I was blown away with the new one.

i hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine :)

Hi Harrison.

That computer should be perfectly fine for FSX and any 3rd party add-ons.
I don't think it would hurt to tweak FSX a bit either, to get an even better performance.

i got the same machine with little difference. mine is 8 GB and have an ATI 6970 on board.

although it really depends on where you are and how the scenery is coded, i have in EDDF with another company Addon and a huge amount of AI still around 15-20 FPS, but as soon as i go up in the air it goes up between 50-100 depending on the weather and cloud density.

Now when you say a large amount of AI do you mean on the ground or in the air? Or both

Title: Re: Xps 8300 i7 2600
Post by Edwin on Feb 27th, 2012 at 3:07pm
bit of both, i think i have the sliders a bit around 40%/50% or so.

shot in the dark...

Could it be the trial version of the anti-virus software installed by dell?

I can't say I had the same problem because I uninstalled the software not long after getting it.

BTW(just read the last post) this is my 4th dell...only had problems with the first one I got all due to windows ME which sucked...other than that I have nothing but praise for dell, I'm sorry for your bad experience though.

I'm also sorry you have had a bad experience with Dell. But as a person who builds, repairs and upgrades computers, I always recommend Dell to those prefer to buy a Brand Name computer. I do this because they are so good. And all of my customers who ended up buying a Dell computer, have had nothing but praise for them.

FSX Freezes up after 10 minutes
Hello again to all..here is my latest problem which just started happening...I start a flight..taxi to the runway..take off..and in about 10 minutes..FSX just stops..freezes...can still here the sound of the engines..but ATC stops and the mouse pointer moves but the screen is frozen....did a Ctrl-Alt-Delete and had to end FSX...but the task manager did show a "error" which read something like this App Data Local Temp "were58.etmp" and also "werecae tmp"...of course I have no idea what this means....anybody else run across this problem...this just started a few days ago..up until them I had no problems running FSX...thought it might be FDC Live Cockpit doing this but all this has happened without using FDC....any help of suggestions would be appreciated" I have the same problem he thinks he fixed it by bringing the water settings to none but I know that's not it...

i have the same pc without any problems, although when i switch planes a lot or use the menu bar a bit too extensive, my FSX freezes, but since i also had this problem on my older pc, i say its an FSX bug. There are many topics about this and there is some on the internet with a solution to reduce this, google uiautomationcore.dll and you will find some of those.

don't worry about the brand dell.. some people have bad experience with some brands and one says dell is crap, others say its hp or apple or whatever brand they had problems with, but you cannot judge by it since you don't know how they used their pc.  I myself am an IT guy at a big worldwide company and we use Dell in the whole of Europe and hardly have any issues: servers, desktops, laptops, you name it.
Also, if Dell is that bad, why are they in the top worldwide selling brands.

Turn Preview DirectX 10 OFF and see if that helps. I have had a few FSX addon aircraft that install an update for DirectX 9, so that sjould not be a problem.

I only ever get the crash after swapping aircraft too many time, but not from overusing the menu. I often have problems with FSX hanging after I exit it.

I don't think it's just because it's a dell I don't have any problems with dell It just seems like something's not right. Tonight I ran into some heavy weather on fsx(on real world weather) it was like 200ft ceiling and 1/2 mile viability no precipt, and I took off turned towards my destination prob 4,000 ft and the comp just shut it down and showed an error message stating that the comp has run out of memory you need to restart fsx and lower the settings, graphics, scenery, etc. but the graphics aren't even on Max settings and I have no add-ons...that can't be right, can it? I mean it has 16gigs of ram, and my previous comp which was half the system this is never had to shut fsx down and tell me to lower the settings.

I'm not a techie as I have said before, but OOM has to do with vitual address space. Here is somewhat of an explanation.

http://janvaane.org/virtualfsx/?p=927

Again, I suggest the hardware forum at AVSIM or SIMFORUMS. These guys are the best source of help. Here's a thread from the AVSIM W7 forum on OOM.
