Title: ILS - missing pink diamond !
Post by FlKp21_Tabo on Feb 3rd, 2012 at 10:37am
When using the ILS procedure, the pink diamond showing the ILS on the ADI and HSI are missing + the "needle" of the ILS stays on the left ! .

I did it like that :
- I entered the ILS frequency into the radio panel
- switched the HSI on ILS : I can see the the confirmation of the ILS frequency on the HSI
- selected the LOC + APP
- I could catch the ILS : G/S and LOC in green on the ADI
- LAND3 illuminated in green
- and kiss landed like in the manuals !

BUT ! no pink diamond + frozen ILS needle on the HSI !

What did i wrong ?

Thank's for the help

Sorry if I can't illustrate the problem but as a newby I am not allowed to post images...  ::)

Markos,or Lou could answer this better than I but here goes.
First,is the airport you are landing at ILS equiped?Check this with the map dropdown. Also,if you are NOT using FMC.Is the relevant ILS frequency and course entered on the centre pedestal?
Are you at the correct altitude and heading for an ILS intercept?
It sounds like you are capturing the LOC,which makes me suspect that there may not be a glideslope at this airport.
Hope this helps.
Ron :-/ :-/

I can confirm that the airport selected is equipped with ILS but I did not use the FMC.
And I was at the correct altitude and heading. Furthermore, as I wrote, I got the confirmation on the ADI that I was following the G/S and captured the LOC (mentioned in green !)
And the plan landed gently by herself...

Attached is an image of how mine looks when I have captured the ILS/GS.

Try doing a reinstall (selecting the repair option) to see if that fixes it. If not, you may need to a complete uninstall and reinstall as explained in KB #685.

If you are using Vista or Windows 7, make sure you install it using the "Run as administrator" option.

Thank's Markos,

Actually, I got exactly the same information on the ADI + HSI.

But it seems that in our case, the "pink diamond" showing the position of the airplane (deviation and altitude) vs the ILS on the ADI + HSI is missing.

If I compare with the "Captain Sim Boeing 757 Full tutorial part 4" avalaible on Youtube, you will see this "pink diamond".

What do I do wrong ?  ::)

Ok, after having tried to repair, but no change noticed.

The autoland is ok but... still no pink diamond :

Hmmm...I wonder why it isn't showing. :-?

And an other detail : the needle of the ILS is moving... but at the nail's speed !

Look at the picture : I am just a few miles from the airport, straight in line with the airstrip and the ILS needle is stuck on the left !  :o

I'am realising that I had installed the freeware version before buying the payware version.

I wonder if, by "chance", there aren't any "low-cost" instruments (gauge) left from the freware version which could result in this mess ?  ::)

I'll try to all re-install.

- uninstalled the 757
- cleaned the registries (there were few pieces of demo 757 left...)
- restarted the PC
- re-installed the 757
and... nothing !  :-? no horizontal and vertical guides for landing  :'(

ok, let's have a beer and think about that !

Tabo,

http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/489/cs757ils.jpg

Here is Mark's screen capture, I just made it a bit brighter and added the G/S and LOC circles.

Always enter the approach via the computer.

Select APP/DEPT, then select the runway ILS of intended landing. This will automatically set the correct ILS frequency.

Let us know how that works out for you.

I think you may have something else going on with your display.

You have a line that should not be there. It could be a video card problem.

Hi Lou

Thank you for the "brighter" capture !  ;) That confirm my question.

About the approach, I usualy fly with the ATC (FSX IFR mode), use the computer for the flight (LNAV) and when the ATC give me the instruction for the approach (n° of runway), I just do as you say :
"Select APP/DEPT, then select the runway ILS of intended landing. This will automatically set the correct ILS frequency."
And I double-check that the ILS frequency is the right one on the radio panel
And I triple-check on the HSI/ILS mode that the frequency is displaied.
As you can see on my screenshot, this seems to work as I am able to land automatically...

I take the question under a new angle : can I ask you what are the "manipulations" (check-list) to do in the cockpit to use/display the ILS ?
Perhaps that I have missed a step ?

About the video card problem... actually... I have cheated !  ::)
It's not a video card problem, it's just the top of the pilot's seat that I have pulled back in order to show the whole instruments on the picture.

In advance, thanks for your precious help  :)

The ILS frequency and course are inserted via the FMC. Look at the NAV RADIO page on the FMC and look for the frequency and course entry that is listed under ILS-MIL(Left LSK4). In v4.4, this becomes active when you reach about 20 miles from the airport, sometimes less. In v4.6, the ILS frequency and course are placed in the ILS radio as soon the plan is activated (see attached image).

I have do not have any trouble if I enter an ILS frequency and course, then landing using the LAND THREE on what I entered, regardless of whether I have a plan in use or not.

I don't think that unusual line in the image, that shows a likely problem with the graphics card, will cause this strange problem you are having with the ILS.

Thank's Mark !

I confirm that I use exactly the same procedure with the ILS. And as you can se on my screenshot, the autoland does work perfectly... but without the horizontal and vertical guides.  :D

So far, the last possibility left is a corrupted file. So I will download a new 757.exe this week-end, clean the regsitries and re-install the bird... once again !  :P

About the "unusual line", I haven't been clear : it's my fault, it's just a visual effect due to the fact that I have moved the camera back, just at the pilot's seat level. It's a piece of the top of the pilot's seat that you see, nothing to see with a problem with my GC  ;)

Once again, thanks for your help.

Seeing as you are, I assume, French, I wonder if it might be a language problem caused by your Windows settings? e.g. mine is set to Australia, while yours would be France. Just trying to think of why it might be missing those parts, but still work correctly.

As for the strange line, which turns out to be part of the seat, it is similar to what we have seen in the 707 which uses HD textures. Glad you don't have a graphics card problem. ;)

I keep you in touch about my last try !
After that, I will fly without pink diamonds...

Best regards

You'll have to forgive me - I'm an Aussie and I am a tad ignorant on some things European - Like the fact that there is a French speaking part of Switzerland - I never knew that until now!
Europe is a world away from me and so I am more familiar with things Asian, than European. Sorry about that. :(

Don't worry Mark, the Blue Planet is big !  ;)
If I am able today to point Victoria on a map, it's only because a friend of mine lives in Hoppers Crossing (SW of Melbourne).
But don't ask me any question about the Aussie geography, I wouldn't collect a lot of points...  ::)

You have learned something today, that's one positive side of this kind of forum  :)

Once again, many thanks to you and Lou for your devoted time.

PS : and sorry for my English but I haven't been practicing for a long time

Thanks.

My brother used to live in Hoppers Crossing.

I remember when it was nothing more than a few houses when I used to go from Laverton (about 8 kilometres East of Hoppers Crossing) to Werribee (about 5 kilometres West of Hoppers Crossing) for swimming sports with the Primary (Elementary) and High schools I was attending as a youngster back in the 1960s and 1970s (I lived in Laverton 4 different times between 1961 and 1973). Hoppers Crossing is now a part of Werribee as both places have grown a lot in the last 40 years.

You English is very good. My French is dreadful. I studied French, for one year, in my second year of High School, back in 1972. I have forgotten most of it. :(

The FS community is large, as is our big blue planet, and I enjoy the communicating with people from all the different places. It does broaden my mind. ;)

@Lou. Thanks for brightening up my image. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] I still don't know why it turned out so dark. It was bright in the cockpit at the time. :-?

Still no news about the pink diamond

As one says : "no news, good news" !  ::)

Actually, the good news is that the snow and the sun are back on the mountains !  8-)

Sorry you haven't heard anything more about your problem. I hope you hear something soon.

As for the weather, it's still mostly hot and sunny over here. Too hot some days, just nice other days. Autumn (Fall. As the Yanks call it) starts in a week. But at least it only drops below 0oC (32oF) a few times during winter, rarely below -3oC (26.6oF).

A Trojan !  >:( (as you can see, I took revenge in the film...)

He was so well hidden in my PC that neither Norton nor Avast did find him ! And he took great pleasure to put the mess in W7 and all the rest ! before Ad-Avast dig him out ::)

So, I had to c:format my DD and... MIRACLE ! the pink diamonds were back !  :D

Sorry to have bothered you with my problem and a big THANK YOU to Mark and Lou for their support.
