Title: C-130 Fire Bomber
Post by aerofire on Dec 27th, 2011 at 3:15am
I downloaded the fire bomber livery from the Captain Sim website.  I would like to add the retardant effect to the switch below the throttle controls that controls the drops.  Anyone know how to?

After screwing with the aircraft.cfg file for a while I have figured out my problem!  The plane now drops two large loads of retardant and when it hits the ground it stays!

Let me know if your interested in fixing your plane, I'll share the info.

Is there any reason why you won't just show us what we need to do in the forum rather than by using the PM system?

The only thing you need to worry about is that if you have a problem after you modify anything, then Captain Sim can't be held responsible. In other words, we do them at our own risk. Simple. ;)

My mistake, i misunderstood a previous message.  I am more than happy to share.   ;D

Google 'Wildfire Pilot' go to the downloads section and download the fire retardant effect.  Sorry I dont have enough posts to add a direct link.   :'(

(1) Copy the "fx_fire_retardant.fx" file to your "Effects" FSX sub directory; C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/Effects

(2) Copy/replace the following lines into the Captain Sim C-130H "aircraft.cfg" file. C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Microsoft Flight Simulator X/SimObjects/Airplanes/CS_EX2_C130 etc...

[smokesystem]
smoke.0=12.00, 8.00, -15.00, fx_fire_retardant.fx
smoke.1=12.00, -8.00, -15.00, fx_fire_retardant.fx

(Please realize this will replace the default engine smoke effect for ALL CS_EX2_C130 (C-130H) liveries; to regain simply copy the default smoke entry from any other Captain Sim C-130X-perience aircraft folder/aircraft.cfg)

(3) To see it in action; press/hold the "I" key (smoke command)

Im still working on the problem when the aircraft is set to full throttle the smoke system is triggered and a drop of retardant is let go........kind of makes a mess on the runway.

Aerofire,

I had the same problem when adding the 'flares' effects to another aircraft. I solved it by assingning the effect to an unused trigger, in my case the 'strobe' button.

e.g

light.12 = 2, 12.00, 8.00, -15.00, fx_fire_retardant.fx
light.13 = 2, 12.00, -8.00, -15.00, fx_fire_retardant.fx

Not sure if the strobe is used on C130,  but you see what I mean.

Good thought Pete!  I'll give it a shot.  Thanks.
