Title: Flightplan import?
Post by whiggy on Dec 4th, 2011 at 3:35pm
Hi!
In version 4.6, I cannot import FSX Flightplans.
In version 4.4 this feature works without problems.

How can I import FSX flightplans in version 4.6?

If this not possible, which flightplaning-tool can export cs related flightplan-format (.rt) ? Maybe ss this format used by another addon too?

Hi whiggy:

You may have something there (regarding FPLN import) about some difference between 4.6 and earlier versions (at least for me for the case of FSC). On 4.6, I was (initially) not able to import FSC created/saved FPLNs via the 4.6 FMC [FLTSIM FPLS] menu. I do not recall such problems w/ earlier versions. Of course, I have no problem on 4.6 importing FSX created FPLNs (which method I don't normally use).

However, I read somewhere on the 767 forum Mark say that when the FSC created FPLN does not import into FMC, one may re-save this FPLN w/ FSX Flightplanner (w/o moving aircraft) and then re-try the import. This now seems to work for me, but I need to (seemingly) re-save w/ a different name (e.g. 0.PLN to 00.PLN). This has anyway solved my FSC FPLN import problem.

I'm still on FSC 8.5 though (i.e. haven't moved to FSC 9). Regarding FPLN tools, I have heard good things about FSBuild 2.3, but again, you may like to hear from others before committing to that tool (if you already don't have FSBuild).

Good-luck.

If you save a flight plan (preferably without SID, STAR and TRANS), open it with the default FSX Flight Planner, then save it again. FSX Flight Planner will not rename the waypoints (even though they differ from the ones in FSX nav data base), nor their co-ordinates. Then load it with the 757 FMS and then add the SID, STAR and TRANS using the FMS/CDU. This always works for me.

As windycityflyer said, the way that FSC8 saves a flight plan is quite different to the way FSC9 does. A good reason to upgrade to version 9 is that you can add SID, STAR and TRANS to the flight plan. I rarely save the plan with those, but I use it to give me a beter idea of what SID, STAR and TRANS to use in the FMC of my modern airliners. I find that it is also easier than reviewing the flight plan on the HSI.

OK THX.
Normally, I do not using FSC9. My maintool is FSBuild and vroute premium for flightplanning. But the trick with new saving works.

Yes, agreed, Mark. That would be preferable. Stepping through the Flightplan on the HSI to correct/re-select the SID/STAR for a given runway is more cumbersome....

I will go to FSC9 one of these days...thanks for the suggestion.
