I do this by creating a new route in RTE 2.

It's not easy but can be done. You have to make sure the changes are being done in RTE 2 and not RTE 1. When I go to change the LEGS in RTE 2 it puts me back in RTE 1 first, so I have to keep selecting RTE 2. Press HDG HOLD before you Activate RTE 2. Once you have activated RTE 2, you need to bring the next waypoint of your new plan to the top of the list - press the Left LSK beside the waypoint to copy it to the scratchpad, then press Left LSK1 to paste it to the top of the list and then press EXEC - or it will probably head back to the DEP airport.
