Correct, a Douglas DC-8 operated by Douglas aircraft was controlled into a shallow dive and broke the sound barrier in either 1961 or 1962. It was later delivered to Air Canada, with no problems in its service.

I suppose you have heard of the German pilot who claimed to have broken the sound barrier in a Messerschmitt 262?

German...claims...the Dc-8 was confirmed. Plus the Dc-8 was civilian and an Me-262 was military.

Yeah, and many say that the Me262's airframe could not survive transonic speeds.

I know it's not the 747, because they don't have air conditioning or heating in the plant. When they first built it they had their own weather patterns in there!
