Title: Trouble at the Gates
Post by ottoramsaig on Jun 2nd, 2011 at 7:13pm
Lately I have noticed that I cannot get the Jetways to deploy. I am hitting Crtl - J but nothing happens. This occurs even when I pull to the assigned gate after landing.

Is this just with the 727 captain? And are the pushback tugs working?

Make sure the you have advanced animations checked by going to... (on the FSX home page) Settings > Customize > Graphics > then under Global Options, make sure Advanced Animations is Checked.

The jetways are very picky that you be positioned the way they want before they will deploy.   I usually try to park as best I can, and if the jetway won't deploy, I use slew to get it right.

I always park so that the main exit is back a bit from the jetway as shown in the image.
Doing it that way means that the jetway needs to move backwards and then across to the main exit as shown by the arrows on the image.

I always place the front wheels inside the red area when calling a jetway...It never fails. This old post was atarted back when V.2.2 was in use...now with 2.4 you should have the problem.

Is there a way to ensure that your flight starts from a jet way and assigned a jet way after arrival?

Yes, you can start at a jet way. When you're selecting your airport, you are on the FSX free flight screen, and there is a drop down menu that says 'CURRENT LOCATION' you click change and select your airport etc. etc. Once you have selected your airport, stay on that screen, towards the bottom middle you will see another drop down menu that says 'Choose runway/starting position:' normally it will say 'Active Runway' click on the drop down menu and a list of runway/gates/parking area/helipads/fuel boxes etc. will show up. Click on one that says for example: GATE B 9 -- GATE MEDIUM. This will make your aircraft appear at a jet way before a flight. To end your flight at a jet way, you will have to contact ground at the airport. Pull off onto a taxiway, open up the ATC windows (a short cut is to press the tilde '~' button located left of the 1 on the top number row of your keypad) After you open the ATC window, You should see an option that says something similar to Contact ground on 121.9. click that option and most of the time the first option is request taxi to gates. If it isn't you will probably see a lot 'request taxi for' options, on the bottom the 9th option says something similar to 'taxi to parking/fueling. After you click that you should see the top option of 'request taxi to gates' as I mentioned earlier. After you click that, you will hear some ATC communications and you will be assigned a gate. You can turn on progressive taxi and follow that to be taken to your gate.  :)

I have done this but at KMCI or KEWR I seem to be parked no where near a jetway even though I selected a medium gate. I can understand selecting a ramp but everytime I select gate there is no jetway..........Otto

On the FSX home page, go to settings > customize > scenery. Under scenery objects, make sure both scenery complexity and autogen density are set to Extremely dense. This will make airport buildings, jetways, etc appear.
