Title: Climbing
Post by Bondiblu on Apr 10th, 2011 at 5:46pm
Hi Everyone!

Just a quick question.  I'm flying the 757-200/300 and I am really having an issue with the rate of climb.  After 8000ft or so, it slows down to a crawl ... after nearly 250nm of climb its only at 23000 - when i should be at FL370 (according to my FP).  When i attempt to manually force climb to faster rate, the speed starts lowering.  Is there a bug that i need to delete? Also, the "clb' switch - should that be pressed?  Is it modelled?  What does it really do?  Thx > Bondi

You need to turn down your vertical speed, or else your 757 is going to stall. As your altitude increases, air gets thinner. Because of this, you have less lift and therefore you cannot climb at such high rates. Once you get much above 8,000 or 10,000 feet, I wouldn't set your V/S to over 2,000 ft/m; try 1,500. Find a V/S at which your airspeed begins to rise, or at least stops falling.

What sort of flight are you doing? Have you entered all the correct information in the the FMC. The 757 climbs very well when it is controlled by the FMC and Autopilot (MCP).

Try doing the tutorial by aussie here: http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1220997876. See if that improves the climb performance of the 757.

You ave to use flight change, and select clim setting by the EMS to have proper climb and power.

Hey Mark
Im flying from KMIA to SKBO.   I love this plane - its my favourate -  and know that climbs well.  But I had to do a recent reinstall - so I'm wondering if i inadvertently changed somethng.  btw, i followed that flight along tiem a go when i first bought this add-on - and it flew perfectly.  still not resolved.  anything else, perhaps?

Download them both and install from the new installers. Maybe the old installers got corrupted somehow.

What are you using for weather?  Sounds like the symptoms of an outside temperature that is way to high, which drastically reduces engine performance and really increases exhaust gas temperature.  This is a common issue if using FSInn and its built-in weather while on VATSIM.

I'm having a similar problem....This only shows on both the 752 and 753 of the CS757.
It’s been quite a while since I’ve used the CS version because of the poor sound quality (in my opinion) and the fact that the airline I worked for had no 75’s but several 73’s - therefore real life pilot help was freely available.

This problem does not show on the JustFlight757, QW757, or another company 73x series aircraft.

Based on a route using Standard airfields (as against hot and high) over a distance of 288nms, Flight time 45 minutes, FL270 limited by City pair - weights come out at around Payload 15000kg / ZFW 83000kg / FOB 7700kg / TOW 90600kg to enter into ACE.

After loading V2 becomes 139kt - CG 30% and trim 3.31 (+ or -) and the CI used is 30 (across all my aircraft)

2 things happen on take-off – The Roll is VERY slow, as is the Rate of Climb – in fact when I last flew the route the aircraft had only reached approximately FL100 about 20 miles from TOC - even though Cruise Alt was set on the ground. I try and engage VNAV and LNAV as soon after passing 1000ft as I can !

Any help appreciated

While I believe that the takeoff run is too slow for the 757, and should be faster,  I am not having any problems with it climbing to altitude, nor holding its speed while doing so.

The 757 still has the annoying missing TD problem, that takes a lot of patience to get sorted out, using the method I described in a Topic a long time ago.
