Title: Post 1.3 bug list    got some comments?
Post by CoolP on Mar 8th, 2011 at 2:34pm
Hi, guys. I'm just trying to collect some remaining items on the 707 which are still present in the 1.3 version of the Lady.
As some items from the 1.2 list got fixed (thanks for that), I had to redo the list. Thanks for your help on the old one.  :) (which can be found here http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1287684648)

The purpose of this list is to show the remaining bugs with a description and a screenshot. Followed by a text of how it should be.
To discuss the item and to check whether it is user driven or an across-the-board lack of function in the 1.3 707 is the last step then.

After this verification, tickets have to be written to make sure the items can be processed through the Captain Sim Support.
Naming things in this thread alone does not help.
Every verified item has to be set up as a ticket via  Your Profile > Customer Support  > Trouble Ticket System.

This list isn't intended to show clear user related problems like "I can't start the engines" or "how do I get external power?" or system dependent ones (like the flashing textures).

1. Pressurization System
- the Cabin Alt readings are wrong (or the cabin isn't pressurized, which is most likely the case) and climb with the aircraft Alt
http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/8682/cabinaltmanual.th.jpg

See the small needle of the No. 10 instrument? It should show the current cabin Alt while the big needle should read the differential pressure between cabin and aircraft outside in PSI.
The small needle follows the aircraft Alt which explains why the Oxygen System is still triggered above 14.000ft cabin Alt.
http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/1460/cabinpressure3.th.jpg

The big needle should read a differential pressure but has to be wrong if the cabin climbs with the aircraft Alt (same vaules). The differential pressure would then be 0.
http://img264.imageshack.us/img264/5881/cabinpressure4.th.jpg

- The Overhead Oxygen warnings (on the "Oxygen Pressure Panel") still come up which can only be explained by a not pressurized cabin.
http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/5607/pressurizationsystem1.th.jpg

- You then lose pressure in the oxygen cylinders as seen on the "Oxygen Pressure Panel" at the engineer's station. Same explanation, the cabin doesn't get pressurized.
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8620/oxyeng.th.jpg

So the Oxygen system seems to work correctly while the cabin doesn't get pressurized and therefor triggers the warnings and countermeasures above 14.000ft fyling altitude.

2. The "Coolant Air System Panel" is mixed up with the readings of the "Valve Position Indicator" and "Valve Selector Switch" or the "Turbofan Exit Valve Override Switches".
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3048/coolandairsystempanel.th.jpg

Talking about this panel
http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3048/coolandairsystempanel.th.jpg

Now, lets look at the pictures that show those mixed up things.
Here you can see the "Turbofan Exit" position of that Switch. Although I set up one exit to be fully open and the other one to be fully closed, the readings show a "half open" (or "half closed" but we should think positive here) on both sides.
So the switches aren't operational it seems.
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/582/turbofanexitposition.th.jpg

Now I switched to the "Temp Control" position and made no other changes and you can see, now we have those commanded "open" and "close" readings, but .. you can't command the temp control valves there because they are controlled on another panel concerning the cabin temp and such things.
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/14/tempcontrolposition.th.jpg

There are some possibilities now.
The readings might be bound to the wrong switch position, the Valve Override Switches might control the wrong valves (they should influence the Turbofan Exits of course) or the "Valve Selector Switch" (optically) shows one position but is bound to another (internally).

3. The 10.000ft pointer of the standby altimeter isn't operational above 20.000ft. The manuals describe this pointer as one for the runway height, which seems to be wrong. It just points the 10.000ft steps of your current altitude.

So it should work like this (it only does below 20.000ft) - description made by Lou.
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/6760/altj.th.jpg

while the manuals describe this
http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/2877/alt2m.th.jpg

4. Reversers can be operated without any power or pressure on the plane.

5. The new ACE Load Manager runs into trouble with metric values.
I've loaded one ULD and I can enter all kind of numbers in the ULD weight window, the overall weight always looks strange.
For example, enter 100kg per ULD and load one, you will get 20kg overall weight of the payload.
http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/3061/weightb.th.jpg
Pounds look ok though, giving you the numbers you've entered per ULD.

The Freighter also gets huge weights when you just switch the ACE to "kg". The values which described the weight in Pounds don't get changed then and just appear as kg now, more than doubling the weight then when you just click "save".
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2268/weight2.th.jpg

6. The Takeoff Warning System can't be triggered.
See the last sentence on this picture for details.
http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/622/towarning.th.jpg

7. The gear warning horn doesn't come on, only the light does.
See item #2 here.
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7314/gearwarning.th.jpg

8. The fuel dumping systems only drains one side at a time, giving you a highly imbalanced plane then. Also, the dumping order is backwards since the Center Tank would be emptied first, than the 1-4 mains. See Reply #7 for details.

Does anyone get the marker sounds to come up?
[edit]They are working, thanks for the feedback.[/edit]

Thanks, Ron.
Short questions lead to short answers, huh?  :P

I'll have to check my sounds, maybe I'm to busy on the approach, so I don't listen.  :-/
[edit]Found them, so they are working, like Ron said. Have to get my ears checked.[/edit]

My fuel dump works fine.

Ah, seems like we're collecting the guys with the short statements now.  :P Just kidding.

Pete, how do you achieve the equally dumping fuel on the plane? What's your setup there?
Currently, I only saw reports about one side getting dumped while the other half of the plane stays full, leading to a big imbalance.
So what's your secret there? Thanks for your input.

Ok, the fuel dump goes like this, left reserve tank, right reserve tank, left tank, right tank,centre.

Title: Re: Post 1.3 bug list    got some comments?
Post by CoolP on Mar 20th, 2011 at 12:00pm
Thanks for answering, Pete.

I'm running onto two problems when talking about the current fuel dump procedure.
First, I think that the Center Tank has to be the first one to get emptied, just because it's the last one to be filled. Later on, the 2&3 mains have to follow, until they've reached a certain level where their fuel equals the amount of the outer 1&4 + Reserve.
That's the schedule you have to follow when just burning fuel on the 707. Why alter it when dumping?
http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/7566/fuelsetup.jpg

Second, the unequal dumping produces large imbalances. Look at the gauges. If Tank 1 goes empty while Tank 4 stays full (this currently happens), you'll get 15.000 lbs of imbalance.
Later, when Tank 2 goes down and Tank 3 stays full, you'll earn 27.000 lbs. That's over 12 tons!

Also, since the plane is meant to feed its engines from Tanks 1,2,3,4 (=Mains) until the end of the flight, this dumping might lead to starving engines, because the current process gives you a full Center Tank but empty mains and wings.

Here are some docs where the fuel setup for burning fuel and also for filling your tanks is described. All of them show the importance of no imbalance and also the one of the main tanks, which are 1-4.
http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/6412/burnschedule.th.jpg
http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/4693/distribution.th.jpg

Still convinced that the fuel dump works as intended?  :)

I don't have my old books any more, but I believe you dumped fuel the same way you burned it. This was for CG limits.

I'd say so too, although my experience doesn't even come close to yours of course.

I've searched the AOM for the dumping process and this is what came up there. Looks like a very equalized operation, leading to a fuel loss like it would happen when just burning it.
One would have to make sure to open the Center Tank valves first to allow this huge reservoir of fuel to get empty first.
Later, Tank 1,2,3,4 can be opened and would run down at the same rate, like on engine operation. Reserve Tanks, as seen in the marked text, can't be dumped at all.

Currently, the Reserve tanks run down first.

The reserve tanks could only be drained into the respective #1 or #4 main tank only when there was enough room in the main tank to drain the reserve into it. The reserve tanks just used gravity to drain into their main tanks. Even though they were not large tanks, they were out on the end of the wings and for CG and structural reasons had to be handled as per the burn schedule. [smiley=beer.gif]

Here's another drawing, so everybody can see what we're talking about.

Any comments on the remaining items? Do we agree that e. g. the working pressurization would be a huge step into the right direction?

CoolP,

I have flown the "new" 707 and the stand-by altimeter 10K needle does not seem to move at all. I did not go to high altitude, just flew around shooting ILS's.

Agreed, Lou. After the "runway height" measurement and the operation until 20.000ft until version 1.2, we now have a dead needle in 1.3.  :(

10. The DME readout fails on the second digit
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/3873/dmey.jpg

Try to set up a station with more than 100nm distance and look after the second digit (showing ten nm). Stays "0" all the time.  :(

Bumping this list a bit since the DME gauge error is distracting.  :-/

The Coolant System, Pressurization, DME 2 and the Standby Altimeter really are like must have and the Oxygen should get fixed if the Pressurization works. Since the last bump was on 2011 giving it another shot here to see if we get some news on the matter.

They seem to be minor details, but I never worked with Gauge programing so... yeah minor here can be huge there.

Also giving an optional activation/deactivation for the GPWS and some other aural warnings in the cockpit would be cool to have it in.

I fly the 707 every day, I don't mind the bugs that much, but you know, would be awesome to have them fixed some time in the future for a complete experience and immersion into realops.

Should we open tickets for this or?

Leo

Hi, Leo. We've placed tickets for all the listed issues and I think that the 'on the list for the next SP' topic in the Knowledge Base features the items. So I guess this ticket step isn't needed anymore unless we find some more bugs.

Fully supported!  :) For me, the 707 still is the favourite CS plane.

+1 the bugs will sure not make me stop flying this beautiful payware, the quality is amazing and those are only details, good to know they are being looked at.

Cheers.

Hey hello all!

Nice forum here, so I decided to register here  :) I beg you indulgence, but english is not my mother-language.

I've found out how to get the gear up warning activated:

First open the aircraft.cfg an go to

[gear_warning_system]
gear_warning_available=0 <---- set it to 1

Second, open the sound.cfg in the \sound folder and insert

[GEAR_UP_WARNING_SOUND]
filename=cagear

under the section

////////////////////////
// MISC
////////////////////////

so it should look like this

////////////////////////
// MISC
////////////////////////

[GEAR_UP_WARNING_SOUND]
filename=cagear

[STALL_WARNING]
filename=707stall
minimum_volume=10000

[EXIT_OPEN]
filename=door_large_open

...

I've tested it with my 707 and it worked without problems  8-)

But make sure to backup your aircraft.cfg and sound.cfg first, in case anything goes wrong.

I found also this section in the aircraft.cfg:

[GPWS]
max_warning_height         =  800
sink_rate_fpm              = -2000
excessive_sink_rate_fpm    = -2500
climbout_sink_rate_fpm     = -300
flap_and_gear_sink_rate_fpm= -300

This section is responsible for the warning-callouts, for example "don't sink" and so on. But they doesn't work, I don't know why. In my C-130 is the same section but there it worked.

I guess she is forgotten? Any news on fixes?

I would also like to see (an) airstair(s) added for people to actually be able to get into the plane :-)

What I also found is that whenever I go into an FS menu like map view, fuel load, graphics,... anything really, almost all switches have gone back to the default position.

Has anyone ever had this? I have had it forever using different installers, FSX installs, heck even different computers. Hugely ennoying. But it still is one of my favourites.

Regarding going into FS menus and switches going back to default I always Pause FSX then go to the menu.

Another idiosyncrasy I have with the 707 is I lose all speed readings when I fly with REX Essentials (Am I allowed to mention them?) Above 12,000ft or so the needle on the speed dial and shift Z reading disappears and yes the pitot heaters are on. Thankfully it reappears below 12,000. Strange!

Good evening,

@hilfy: Have you tried to activate nacelle anti-icing? Mybe that helps. Wing Anti-Icing should also always on in-fligth.

Nothing from the last problems appears with my 707. Only the bug with the right Altimeter interferece a bit (the 10K-Needle does not move).

Thanks for the tip Mustang, wing and nacelle anti icing on and didn't lose speed readings.  :)

When it comes to accessing the menu while flying the 707, I try very hard to get everything done straight after I load it into FSX so it doesn't matter that it turns everything off when I return.

Restarting the engines mid flight is NOT my idea of fun! I always lose too much altitude. :D ;D

What I also noticed just recently;

1 Select ground power as you should (switch on EXT, close breaker)
2 Open the engine generator breaker switches

=> No power??

Makes no sense to me :p

I noticed the following:

- the wing landing lights are flashing like a beacon instead of glowing with permanent strength

- the service doors on the starboard side are much to big. In my repaints I sometimes ignore them and paint them smaller in order to give it a more authentic look

- starboard service doors are not equipping with emergency slides

- emergency exit behind the wing has no functionality which I regret a lot

The 707 & 727 electrical panel work pretty much the same way.

In this picture I opened the GEN BREAKERS to show how it SHOULD look.

You cannot have two types of electrical power at the same time.
*You have engine driven generators
*External power
*APU if equipped

Only one of these sources at a time will work.

The way it should work is lets say you have just pulled into the gate and the engines are still running, the ground power is plugged in. The F/E selects external on the meters selector switch. If the voltage and frequency are within limits the F/E then selects ON by closing the external selector switch. As the switch is moved to the close or ON position the first thing that happens is a signal is sent to trip the MGR (main generator relay) on the F/E panel which is labeled GEN BREAKER. It is the middle switch on the electrical panel. This trip must happen before the external power relay closes to prevent multiple power sources. The same is true in reverse, if external power is on and the engine is started, the closing of the GEN BREAKER will first trip the external off so as to avoid two sources at the same time. The engine driven generators are considered the same power source since they go through the BUS TIE BREAKERS which provide sync bus protection.

Now the rub... this is not modeled correctly in the 707 or 727 in that the GEN BREAKERS do not illuminate when power is changed over. This does not seem to affect power to the plane, but is not correct.
