Title: climb rate help
Post by connors on Feb 16th, 2011 at 3:13am
Hoping someone can help me with the climb rate of 727-200F.  I can't get much of a climb rate at all starting at about 10-12000ft.  After this i get around 1000ft/min and it gets lower as I get higher.  I am trying to reach 32000.  My gross weight is only 140,000 and am using clear skies weather and climb thrust of 90%.  Even when i wait to get to 32,000 and level off, i need full thrust just to keep an airspeed of around .74.  Any help on what i might be doing wrong or not doing at all would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

The CS 727-200/-200F is underpowered.
So there are three things that can help.
You can reduce the amount of fuel, so its about 70% - 75%. The lighter it is, the better it performs.
Or you can edit the aircraft.cfg file and increase the thrust, which is what I did.
Thirdly, you can use Michael2 mod here: http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1296889437

If you choose the second option (what I did), backup the original aircraft.cfg and change this:

[TurbineEngineData]
fuel_flow_gain= 0.003
inlet_area= 18.000
rated_N2_rpm= 29920.000
static_thrust=17400     //15500
afterburner_available= 0
reverser_available= 1
ThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 1
AfterBurnThrustSpecificFuelConsumption = 0

The bold blue text is the new thrust, the red text is the original. Copy and paste this line:

static_thrust=17400     //15500

into your aircraft.cfg overwriting the original for both the -200 and -200F. It will greatly improve their performance.

Hope this helps.
