My stand-by altimeter looks like this:


But in CoolP's example out of the manual for CO1 there is a different look.



In this example my stand-by altimeter is showing 12,600' the same as the Captain's altimeter.

The image in CoolP's manual calls the 10,000 foot needle a runway height indicator???  :o That is not correct!
Also, Kollsman is the correct spelling not Kohlsman as is in the manual.

The skinny line pointer with the triangle shows 10,000 feet when it is pointing at 1.

The fat/short needle with the hash marks on the other side is the 1,000 foot needle. The stripes or hash marks were there to alert the pilot that he was below 10,000 feet. As you would go up in altitude and the 10,000 foot needle would move, and a mask would begin to hide the stripes.



This altimeter indicates 10,180 feet


                                               
This one shows 80 feet.
