You can't fly VOR to VOR if you are doing Trans Atlantic flight or, like me, doing Trans Pacific flights. SEA - HNL is a 3.5 - 4.5 hour stretch over the ocean and there are no navaids within cooee of you. It's just you and your trusty old INS.
My INS flight wasn't too bad, I was only 2 miles off the track when I got back into range of the VORs.
