Title: 2D Panel Post by jcmic on Aug 20th, 2010 at 9:51pm
:) Hi everyone,
I'v just bought the new 707 CS FXS version, and at first eye it seems great. And I know it will improve from now on, as it is a very recent FSX airplane. However, I was a little bit disapointed as I noticed that full 2D Panel didn't show up. I believe to have understood into the ‘707 Captain’ FLIGHT MANUAL Part I – User’s Manual(page 5) , that it is normal and there is no main 2D panel. Therefore, one would has to manage the 707 from virtual cockpit only. 1) Is it sure or have I missed something for displaying the 2D Panel ? 2) If yes for 1) is it a definitive choice or maybe a 2D panel could be expected in future ? And congratulation for this great airplane! By advance, thanks for an answer jcmic |

There is no full 2D panel. I don't want to speak for Captain Sim, but the 727 does not have a 2D panel, either, and I haven't heard of any plans for one. I would not expect one for the 707. The VC is gorgeous, though, and the super high def textures are clear. Sorry if you prefer a 2D panel, though.

:) Thank you both for your clear answer.
No problem, this will be good opportunity to change my habits, by using fully the VC. And good fly jcmic |

I bought this beauty also, and I am not disappointed
one bit, its a masterpiece guys, thank you. That being said, I am going to disagree with Tim on this. I think a 2D popup at least for the NAV/Autopilot is really something you should think about doing... why, well because we arent really flying as 3 people, its just one brave soul sitting at the sim, and its a MAJOR pain having to look down at the AP controls when you are also having to worry about whats going on outside the window. I have always found the 727 great, just the small popup i can position up in the upper left or whatever so on approach it makes it simple to disconnect when I'm ready while never taking my eyes off the approach. I really don't think this is too much to ask :) Thanks for a beautiful piece of history btw CS! |

Hi Jack.
Something to consider that might make it easier for you is to open a new window (view) using the "[" key, zoom in on the A/P. Now you have the A/P in a position of easy access. I actually do this so I can see the N2 gauges when I'm starting the engines. I have also found that "Z" turns the A/P ON and CTRL+Z turns the ALTITUDE HOLD ON (the switches actually move too). CTRL+H (HEADING HOLD) I haven't tried yet (except to see that it doesn't change the heading bug), but if it does, they are another way of doing it without taking your attention away from the job at hand. After going thru its maiden flight I think I can probably
live without the popup, although I still think it would be nice, its not hard for them to make it, depending on how the textures and gauges are set up I can probably do it myself :) The funny thing is, you know what the most problematic thing is, the yoke being in the way of the heading and course settings which you need to use during approach, sometimes they just happen to peek around the side, but it can be a problem sometimes. As I said though, I just finished my first full flight, a shorty from KPDX to KSFO, it was just wonderful, did an ILS approach to 28R and the LOC and G/S capture were just perfect, did get that GPWS warning just before switching off AP and landing. But this plane is an absolute joy to fly! It was sure worth the wait CS, thank you. |

Just raise your eye position, then you can see both knobs past the yoke. I think it is set too low, anyway. I feel like a seven year old before I raise it. The first thing I do is raise it. Someone will come along and tell us how to raise it permanently, which I forgot how to do.

Hi Tim.
Open the aircraft.cfg and edit this: [Views] eyepoint=55.0, -1.6, 5.55 I'm pretty sure it's the last group of numbers (5.55) that you need to edit. The distance is measured in feet from the aircraft CG. So it is 55.0 feet forward, -1.6 is 1.6 feet to the left and 5.55 feet above. The CG is usually 1/3 the width of the wing from the leading edge. Because the wings are below the fuselage, the eyepoint was raised 5.55 feet. Hope this helps. Mark EDIT: I find the following setting quite good. Feel free to try it out: [Views] //eyepoint=55.0, -1.6, 5.55 //original setting eyepoint=55.0, -1.6, 5.8 |
