Title: Will you buy it again??
Post by cyberstudio on Nov 24th, 2009 at 9:46pm
Hi guys...

Im a not very satisfied 757 customer, but i was thinking that maybe i should get the 727 (I love the old jets).

I want to know your opinion guys... What do you think of this aircraft? Should i get it? What about the bugs?? Will you buy it again?

And... Can i install the CIVA INS?

If you want a one-word answer...yes!

I've modified a couple things to make it "perfect":

- Reprogrammed the autopilot xml gauge to make it behave more like the real one
- Made Michael2's EPR gauge mods
- Modified a virtual cockpit texture so that the flap handle lines up with the numbers
- Added a Nav/GPS button to the GPS window.

Other than these things, I have had zero problems with the aircraft. I'm running FSX Acceleration on Vista 64.

Be warned though, there is much less automation on this aircraft...you'll have to fly and navigate for yourself.  That's what I like about it!

I purchased this bird Sunday and all and all I am very pleased. I would buy it again in a heartbeat at the discounted price.

Pros:
Frame rate friendly on my decent rig
Beautiful VC/External models
Nice extras such as a flight attendant/captain intercom announcements
The biggest a/c I've ever flown in RL is a King Air 200.... so given that I have no real world tubeliner experience.... The flight dynamics seem extremely good... I think there is another guy on the forum who is/was a FO or captain in a 727... He may be able to give you a better idea on that.

Cons:
a few minor/annoying programming issues....
The AP is finicky
The pressure readout is not calibrated appropriately
The APU sound does not go away when the APU is turned off
The flap handle doesn't show the correct setting (although the guage on the panel appears to read correctly)
I have yet to perfect the cold and dark startup state....
The standard sound pack is not good in  my opinion... but easily fixable with a freeware pack by a prominent FS sound engineering co.

All and all an excellent bird... very fun to hand fly... and very pilot intensive.

I did a review for it on flightsimulatorxworld.com
I love this aircraft, but I do like the real 727 too. It's a great bird.

@Budward:
on the APU sound: this is a bug that is easily fixable. Fixing this bug will also improve the sound set, as custom sounds aren't working when you experience this bug (or at least that's my experience)
sollutions for this bug are posted in the knowledge base, and in the 757 and 727 forums.

@Lars - Thank you! I briefly searched the forums to no avail. I'll dig a bit deeper. Thanks again!

@Budward
look for KB 3769,
and read this topic in the 757 forum:
http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1226425760
using the instructions from the KB and editing the sound.ini file solved my problems with sound.
I hope it works for you too.

I would definitely buy the CS 727s (I have all 3 variations) again. The airplanes are stunningly beautiful inside and out and they feature some really cool animations. The VC is the most realistic I have seen in any sim.

Plus, the version I downloaded a week ago seems to have fixed most of the issues reported here, so they fly well too.

I would not hesitate to buy the CS 727s.
