How can you work out what the trim setting should be for take of. Apart from being in the green :)

Boeing 727's didn't have advanced fmc's that tell the pilots what T/O trim is. Unless told otherwise in the loadsheets pilots normally use 5 units of trim.

We used performance charts from the Boeing manual to derive a stab trim setting.
The CS 727 is a game and should be flown as one. There is no way to balance payload. There is no way to determine takeoff EPR, V speeds, minimum flap manouvering speeds, climb EPR, outside air temperature. Those performance charts were not supplied. If you can get a hold of a Take Off Landing Data Card and some performance charts you could operate it more realisticly. Until then it's jsut a fancy default plane. |

Until we wait for Captain Sim's solution you may try this :
Open the following file: ...\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B727-100\AIRCRAFT.CFG find the following line: elevator_trim_effectiveness = 1.0 change to : elevator_trim_effectiveness = 0.3 JETPILOT, you'v been very helpfull in this forum. in VC just mouse over trim wheel and roll mouse back/forward then trim is super fine.

When your flying an approach you can't be looking down at your trim wheel. That's a band aid for a problem that should be addressed by CS.

I use the trim wheel on my go flight module to adjust trim. I do not look down and check position, with the exception of take off, where I set it at 4.5. On climb, cruise or approach I adjust the trim wheel to take my feedback stick to a position where it is not fully pulled back, or pushed forward. I have found like the real plane you will constantly be adjusting the trim, as it burns fuel or gains/reduces alitude. I have a DVD's of the plane flying with Cougar Airlines, and the pilot is adjusting the electrical trim constantly, until the plane is set on autopilot.
