Title: Alternative VC night lighting. Download v4.1 HERE!
Post by Necroscope on Jun 18th, 2009 at 8:43pm
Hi all,
here the link: http://www.captainsim.org/tools/757/NC_VC_Lights_v4_1.zip

This mod contain:
-      alternative night light-maps for VC textures (v4.1 - whole VC)
-      2 additional VC flood-light sources
-      3 level backlight for gauges in VC
-      Additional 2D Light-control Panel. (V4.1 - additional buttons on Radar Controls 2D Panel(Shift+4))
-           Simplified Install procedure.

Notes:
-      Not Tested in 2D Cockpit.
-      If light-sources are “blinking” or loaded improperly – turn it off then on.  It is FSX bug.
-      In some conditions night textures can appear in early-n-sunny evening. You are able to turn it on\off via Panel switch on NC Lights panel. It is FSX bug

Here is the PIC-s. Before clicking the links - Please note that pictures are big, and dark(cause it's a night, you know).

Does this apply to the virtual cabin? Although the cabin was ok with lighting?

Thanks so much I look forward to it's release! :D

Now... Please tell us that you will going to share this with us.

Few questions:

Well for cryin' out loud, this makes this airplane darn near perfect.  CS folks should be on this like a duck on a junebug.  This makes a big difference to me.

I've got myself a new widescreen desktop, if nothing else  :D

2 all: Yes, I'd like to share this mod when it's done. Already sent tiket to CS support asking for some help\clarification, just  to avoid braking the CS's Copyrights.

Space shuttle No. The pax-cabin lightmaps will remains intake.
Have no ideas what's happining in pax-cabin, anyway, - it's attendants job to sort out the screaming cargo. :)

cyberstudio I've keep overhead panel lighting intake. CS's one is cool enough.
Please see this post - think it will help. http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1245096833

Hope so. But there a lot of files involved - Cfg-s, Effects, Textures, Lightmaps, gauges xml-s and so on, plus some preparations have to be done before. So there no way just to post "How-to guide".
Only way a see - the bunch of files to download. I'm not sure that CS will agree if I do so.

But anyway - there still a lot of things to do and figure-out.
Be patient, but stay tuned! :)

At least one hopes this inspires CS to realize that this problem can be fixed.  If not, you have a future in selling "enhanced cockpit lighting."

First post updated. Gauge's backlight feature pic added.

How it is in real 757- there is only 2-level of backlight or more?

Hi!

Maybe you can tune the fuel indicator gauge in the VC? just that, so we can see the numbers. At least on my system i can't see those numbers at night.

PD: Your mod can be tuned to look like this?

As I've mentioned earlier - please check this topic http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1245096833
I've also add the digits replacement "how-to" to the first post there.
Here is two pics with both mods on it :

PD: This photo looks too overbrighten for me. In any case - you'll hurt your eyes during night flight in FSX if I do so. :)
Anyway - I'm goin to create (already done, to be honest, but still required for some tuning) two separated flood-light effects. And user will be able to use the lights separately or together - 4-level lighting on the whole.
More to say - it will be quite easy to adjust the color and intensity of each lightsource.

Thanx for feedback :)

Hello all,
this mod (v3) is almost done and works ok for me. Only few minor things to do left.
I've also conact with you via e-mail, but unfortunatelly dosn't got any  reply regarding our future modus operandi.

So guys, could you please notify me with your decision?
And of course I can send you latest version if it needed.

Looking forward to this like Christmas.  I can't imagine why a privately distributed user mod shared freely among a few friends would cause a problem, especially since it addresses a significant issue for some of us.  I'm a laywer, but I'm not an intellectual property lawyer (or Captain Sim's lawyer) though.

Actually, this mod content few modified and new textures, several modified gauges and one new testing gauge. And there no any new technology.
But in e-mail I've got was a remark - "please do not share your progress".
So I'm trying to be a good guy. It's so cruelly. :)

Actually no any conspiracy here :)
I still hadn't any reply from CS team. I think because of their vacation.

At the moment all textures done, all nessesary gauges corrected.
In case of VC hard-code(or smthg else) - I can't add my custom variables to existed VC switches. So I've add additional 2D panel with lights and brightness toggles. It isn't so cool, but at list it works.
That's it. :)

Necroscope,

NICE!NICE!NICE! Great work, Thanks! Only question is I cannot find the control panel(FON bitmap texture) to adjust the dimness/brightness that you put in the package for the backlighting in either the 3D or 2D cockpits. I can change the brightness somewhat by using the panel control but cannot for the life of me find the panel you provided in the package.Plz help.

Hm... No gauges in VC? Seems you do not extract files from CAB. Important part of setup:
6. create folder with name "Captain_Sim.b757"
7. extract all data from "Captain_Sim.b757.CAB" file to "Captain_Sim.b757" folder.
8. !rename " Captain_Sim.b757.CAB " file to "ORIGINAL_ Captain_Sim.b757.CAB "

I suggest you to restore Backup and perform modding again.

Actually, I've found mistake in readme. Fixed.

Title: Re: Alternative night lighting in VC. Download HERE!
Post by Beachdog2001 on Jul 10th, 2009 at 4:06am
Yeah, the readme had a mismatch between the created folder and the copy to folder with a .oh extension.  That might have been confusing to some.  Is this the error that you were talking about?

Just to be more clear, you might also consider adding a note as to where exactly to create the new folder that the CAB contents are to be copied into (Step 6).  It might not seem obvious to some.  I am assuming that it goes into the same folder as the CAB file, ie. the Panel folder.

Yes.
I'll take a part of readme from my FuelGauge mod, and overlook the ".oh".

Woah, you are fast.  ;D There is now a second part to my post above

BACKUP all ***_LM.dds files in your FSX_Path\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B757-200\

I don't have any ***_LM.dds fils in this folder.  These are all in the ...\texture folder.  So you may want to make this change as well.

Nope. Overhead panel is default.
I think I can change it. But I can't say when. :)

yes but mine is not longer like this :

Now, some gauges are darks...

This is what I can see now :

http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/3549/lightso.jpg

and I found the "problem"... If I go back to the original file "aircraft.cfg" all overhead displays are ok.

and if I use your aircraft's file, that work close to your pictures but some panels are very too dark and some part of the cockpit is too brighter (look the yoke) ...

that is strange

I'll take a look to all this things a little bit later. Cause I'm overloaded at the moment here.

Probably this was a decision to keep possibility to read chart and yoke tables.

Ok, I'll prepeare dark textures for those areas.
...but those lighted corners was co cute... :)

Back to overhead - I've found that this issue refered only to 757-200 model(I've never flyed on it). In 757-300 overhead is OK. Probably the reason in model itself.
Try to play with additional 4(panel) lightsource coordinates to automatically highlight overhead a little when Panel is on.
Probably this will help(add to lights section of aircraft.cfg of 752): light.XX = 4,  66.00,   0,  3.5,  fx_vclightwhi

2 Space shuttle Nope, this is old-good FSX bug. Try to use Flood 1 and 2 without Panel switch.

This is not a problem with the Necroscop fix or texture.

the problem is that the FSX Overhead gauges are designed from a FS9 version and they are not "really" for FSX, ok they work but a FS9 gauge in FSX will don't have any illumination.

The solution : Transform them in a FSX standard.

Seems so. But in 753 - all OK. Even the both models are using same textures and gauges. I think the reason is "materials" settings in VC for 752.
Any way - It can be fixed with additional "Panel" lightsource under overhead. I've played a bit with FX tools from SDK and yes, if the lightsource is lit-up - textures and gauges become visible.

Try to keep original lights.4 in aircraft.cfg probably it helps.
Here the good doc how it works: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc526969.aspx

Unfortunatelly now I have no enough time to figure all this things out.
But if you have questions - feel free to ask.

You're right... I took the "cs757_300_interior.MDL" instead off the "cs757_interior.MDL" and now, the overhead is perfect.

CS, could you manage the 757-200 material like the 300 ?

By the way, I'm working on a new overhead night texture ! Preview in few day and you'll be able to add this on your package if you are agree of course.

I'm working too on other texture part of the VC.

All the best

Cool! Actually oh texture is good for me. But there is always enough room for perfection.

If you about those light corners (they are so cute :) ) - I think we can just fill LM with black, and that's it.

Anyway - let's join our effords via e-mail, results will be better.

Thanks !

Now I'm working on the left front night panel (BREAK RESERVE, AUTOLAND STATUS ...) who don't exist on the current version.

After that, I'll work on the maintenance panel. and I'll send you all this by email.

Now I hope that CS will correct the problem with the 200 version (All is perfect with 200F and 300)

The job will be finish tomorrow.

Yes ok, but for now, the VC model made by CS have a problem with all the material effect on the overhead (the $textures).

Right now, just the 200 freighter and the 200 work fine. I sent an email to CS to avoid them about this "bug" and I hope that they fix it on the next release.

All the best

This issue is more or less solvable. But not so nice as on 753 and 752F.

Cthulhus, I think it will be better if you send me current version of your textures - it's easier to fix\add smthg before all job done.

I tried to follow the directions, but got an odd result with black textures on many things, e.g. throttle handles.  I just reinstalled so big deal, but I'm wondering if the step-by-step is not assumeing something that a non-power-user might miss?  I don't want this to sound like a complaint, by the way, either, since you have so graciously volunteered your time and efforts to increase the enjoyment of the product.

I am particularly not clear on the the re-naming of the folder.  Also, whenver I have tried to extract the zip file into my root FSX director, all I get is the VC night lighting folder put there.

Love the new lights, however, I now lose the functionality of my mouse pointer; cant adjust speed, altitude, ect. from virtual cockpit. When I go back to 2D everything is fine, and sometimes for a short while everything is fine in VC, but eventually I lose my ability to use my mouse again. Kind of a tough way to fly. Anyone else experience this?

Yes it was ok. I must be some sort of texture issue I am sure I am not installing it right. Is there any additional installation instructions other than whats listed in the readme? and when you say we have two options for an edited or non edited cfg does editing the EXIT: 0 count or simply panel editing?

Thanks so much :)

Awesome mod the VC at night time.  My only issue which I have not had time to find is that the overhead becomes non-functional at night (is OK in day-time), with no orange warning lights.  There are whight borders clearly visible that separate the various sections of the overhead, just that the switches do not light when there is a fault, and are not visible.  I did the "easy" install after backing the required files up.

Thanks,  Bruce.

It's a problem in the 3D VC model in th 200 version.

We asked CS to fixe that on the next SP. Try the 300 or the 200F and you'll have a nice night cockpit

My cfg-s are affecting only to [lights] section in aircraft.cfg and [window 04] and [window 44] in panel.cfg
Try to copy my values to your own cfg-safter "Smart" install.

Hello,

I've downloaded and installed the new 4.4 version of the 752 and 753.
Afterwards I've installed the alternative VC night lightning. It worked great with version 4.3, but in 4.4 I've got a problem. I can't use the switches labeled "1" and "2".

Could this be a problem of my installation?

For the moment I've switched back to version 4.3, because I don't want to fly the 757 without this fantastic night lightning.

Thanks,
Patric

Hi,

Necroscope, I am having a little difficulty understanding what exactly you mean with the comments in the readme concerning changing the light.XX = 9 and 10 entries. Your aircraft.cfg lights section doesn't even look vaguely similar to mine...

CS757 base pack Version 4.4... 757-200, I don't have the F or 300 expansions...

I cannot get the overhead panel to look right at all...

Could someone post the lights entry of their 757-200 they have using this mod please?

Thanks

Andrew

Okay, two issues.
First, I have managed to locate the light controls in the 200 only, not the 200F, I was curiouse if there was a reason for this? Or a fix?

Second: While my cockpit lights do work, they just dont look quite like the previous posted pictures. Input?

Awsome work by the way, I think we all apreciate the work you ahve put into this.

Instead of making a long winded post about how to manually convert the vc night lighting i made the replacement cab file, Its not perfect and it can slow down the loading of the 757 ( only by a couple of seconds on my PC over the original one ) when you select it in the aircraft selection screen

Important back up Captain_Sim.b757.cab to a safe place.

Replace the cab file in the mod with this one ( extract the cab file first )

http://files.ukcs.net/10412/Captain_Sim_b757.zip   ***** THIS IS FOR 4.6 ONLY*****

Follow the instructions in the original 4.1 read me.

Limitations

When you bring up the wx control panel ( 2d panel ), Only the light dimmer works and the first button next to it ( panel lights on and off )

To control cockpit flood lights,

Captains Flood light - controls the cockpit flight light.
First Officer Flood light - Lights up the main panel and pedestal

As normal, use at your own risk and make backups

Gandy,

You say I should extract the CAB file that you've posted.  Should I extract it directly into the CS757 panel folder or should I create a subfolder specifically for the cab file?  I just loaded it up and the 757 wasnt in my fsx aircraft select menu.  I added a new livery, and i could select the aircraft.  However, the overhead panel was useless as none of the buttons can me pressed.

Title: Re: Alternative VC night lighting. Download v4.1 HERE!
Post by gandy on Jun 11th, 2013 at 5:43am
you dont need to extract it, only if you was doing it manually. The cab i created just needs to be placed in the panel folder replacing the original one.

I found that I downloaded this when the original link was working, so I have made it available from my dropbox. You can download it here:

This is not my work, so cannot take credit for it. You also use it at your own risk (though it should work fine). Backup any original files that might be overwritten!
