Title: Missing sounds - tips and tricks
Post by rservice on May 21st, 2009 at 11:39am

I recently downloaded version 4.3,and noticed that the attendant messages and altitude callouts don't appear to be working. There was a fix for the attendant messages on ver 4.2 on the old AVSIM forum which I cannot remember. Any suggestions appreciated.

I got that too, all you have to do is edit the sound.ini as suggested elsewhere on the forum and it all works again.  Sorry I can't remember the details, I'm at work right now.

Here's the previous fix:

Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Captain_Sim\757.  Open and edit the sound configuration file file so that it reads "SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0".  That should take care of it.

Also, I have noticed that seatbelt/smoking signs are still not fixed completely.  Not that big of a deal, though.

i don't know if the notebook runs this way but if u'r not running vista as an admin u can try right clicking on the mouse for notebook and then click on 'run as admin'. see if that helps.

It still will not work it tells me there is no path ?

Title: Re: Missing sounds on 4.3
Post by rupesh on May 23rd, 2009 at 5:03pm
did u go thru this path?
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Captain_Sim\757
there is sound configuration file that will open with notepad.
u can also try disabling (turning off) the 'UAC control' found under 'user accounts' in 'control panel' when u click on 'start'. then try changing the config file. u may need to restart the comp after turning the 'user acount control-uac' off.

Roger,

Are you running vista 64 bit or 32 bit? I had the same problem with the sound and it worked for me. The sound file you should open is at the bottom, next to it there is written cinfiguration setting. The only reason why I am asking you if you have 64 or 32 bit because when I had the 32 the path was C:\Program files as with 64 is C:\Program files(x86) and 64 bit has them both program files with x86 next to it and without and on my pc everything goes there for fsx, I am not sure if this counts for all the 64bit but that is how it is on mine.

Thanks for the response.

I have FSX in a separate folder for performance:C:\ FS
This is where the sound ini file is located: C:\FS\Captain Sim.
Yes, the file is an .ini

Hi Jack,
Try to localize the file called MSVCR71.DLL in C:/.
You should find it.
Make a copy and past it into the main FSX folder.
That should fix your problem.
Best regards,

What does this .DLL file do? My cockpit sounds are also messed up. The Altitude chime, seatbelts, smoking, cabin calls, GPWS, and when I am looking straight forward out of the cockpit it gets really quiet then i turn the view to the side and it goes up to normal volume.

Any clues?? This is how it is with all airplanes in FSX now after installing Captain Sim. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

I only have a file called msvcr70.dll in my system32 folder which I copied into my FSX folder as well.  I updated the C++ stuff as recommended in the Knowledge base and still don't have a msvcr71.dll as well as cycled through the views, reinstalled the aircraft, reloaded it as suggested and changed the .ini file and still don't have any of these sounds back.  No cabin crew announcements, no seat belt sounds, no APU and I don't know what else.  I do have the pilot's windows opening sound though...real useful that one ;D

Now what?  What is the difference between msvcr70.dll and msvcr71.dll?  Were can I get msvcr71.dll? :-?

Just wondering if you fine people at CS have fixed the cockpit sound issue with the CS757?  The switches will click for a small period of time and then they do not click anymore.  I have read the KB article regarding issues with SB cards and placing a .dll file in the main FSX folder but I have not been able to remedy the issue.  I had sound when the CS757 was first released so I am hoping that you tell me if there is a fix coming up.

Thanks,

Post by KristianN on Jul 12th, 2009 at 8:06pm
Hi all

Still missing the sounds in my 4,3. I've tried both installing the newest version of c++ and edited the line in the ini file.

Nothing helps. But no matter what version of c++ I install I only have msvcp60.dll and not msvcp71.dll. I never saw msvcp71.dll.

I simply don't know what to do to get yhe sounds to work.
I hope someone can help me.

Title: Re: Sounds... again...
Post by Tim Capps on Jul 13th, 2009 at 6:49am
Here is what the word on the street is :-)  Hope CS can clarify.

It has something to do with a Soundblaster API that does not work for a lot of people and just never will, no matter what (short of getting a Soundblaster card, I guess).  I don't know this to be the case, just offering an explanation I heard that made sense to me.

I can say the existing fixes -- the sound / slew change in the config file and the msvcr71.dll in the Windows System (some people say in the FSX root directory, but not CS) do not solve the problem of cockpit sounds disappearing for those of us who have that problem.

Perhaps a related problem is the engine sound on all the time, which seems to be pretty common, and has always plagued me.  I wouldn't mind seeing that one taken care of somehow.

These are not show-stoppers for me, but one likes to see improvements from product to product as time goes on.  The night lighting difference Captain Sim reports is alone enough to convince me to buy the airplane.  EDIT -- yes it was.

It didn't work before but this must be a special version of the module. Go to this topic: http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1247377039
Then download the dll from the link given and put a copy in the system32 folder and the fsx folder. Works perfectly now!!!  8-)'

Which msvcr71.dll ?

I happened to notice that I have two!

one is 508 kb dated June 20, 2008 (came with Vista presumably, unless I got it from someplace else in dealing with this problem before)

other is 340 kb dated Feb 21, 2003 (downloaded from link)

I wonder if this is the problem?  What happens if the newer one is in Windows\System and the older one is in ...\Microsoft Flight Simulator?

I have to concur with FidBiddle, that msvcr71.dll seemed to do the trick as I now have sounds in the cockpit.  Thanks for the link.  I have no idea why msvrc71.dll works but msvcr70.dll does not, but at this point, I don't care ;D

I still can't get past the power going off problem though.  :-/  Other than that, all is good.

Power goes off even with the electrical always on line?

Do your sounds stay above 5000 feet?  Man, this is frustrating.  Mine start, then go away somewhere during climb.  At least I think I'm onto someting with the msvcr71.dll because there is an older one that I suspect is what this bird is looking for.

Two things to do :

edit the sound.ini
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0

and place the msvcr71.dll . in C:\

If you want my file, contact me.

I had the same issue and now all is fixed with the two above changes.

Sure c:\?

That's the third place I've heard put it.  FSX folder, Windows\System32 + ... ?

I'm game.  I just keep bounching this file around for awhile and if it still doesn't work I'll accept your file, if it is different than the one from the download site posted.

Title: Re: Missing sounds on 4.3
Post by Beachdog2001 on Jul 16th, 2009 at 4:10pm
Tim, I am not sure yet.  I was set to do a flight yesterday and had the sounds back, then the power went off even with electric....=1 and pluggd into shore power, APU wouldn't start, nothing and I just quit at that point.  For me that means a complete reload.  Simply reloading a saved flight also resets all my weights to 5,000 lbs of payload, reload the aircraft does the same thing plus resets all my aircraft setup back to default and I have to start all over anyways.

I didn't have the patience for it yesterday.  I will try it today and see what happens.

By the way, my msvcr71.dll is 340 kB and is version 7.10.3052.4.  I put it into system32 and FSX folders.  Not sure which location did the trick, probably system32 wold be my guess.

Title: Re: Missing sounds on 4.3
Post by Beachdog2001 on Jul 16th, 2009 at 7:58pm
I think I figured out what I was doing wrong with the electrical.  I had in
electric_always_available=1 it should be
electric_always_availalbe = 1

Those two spaces before and after the "=" sign may be the key.  Sure enough, the other entries in that section also have the spaces. I am going to try it out now.

I think we need to be careful when referencinig this fix to other people as this went unnoticed by me for quite a while :-/

Fingers crossed.... ;D

Edit:  Still didn't work.  I lose power after 7 minutes every time after reloading a fight. >:(  I will try to do a complete restart. If this doesn't work I give up. What can you do in 7 minutes with power, start the engines and let them run while you do the rest of the preflight?.  I don't think so :-/

well, your sound fix didn't work for me so we're even  ;D

I checked mine and it is identical to yours.

That's a bummer, and a mystery.  Never known that one to fail.  At worst, can you inop the APU and call for ground power and air from the get-go and take all the time you need?  That's what I used to do before I discovered the fix.

Title: Re: Missing sounds on 4.3
Post by Beachdog2001 on Jul 18th, 2009 at 5:23pm
My power fails with ground power on ;D  What I have to do is set the time up for 5 minutes before departure and do as much as I can with the sim paused.  The FMC works like this but certain buttons only work with thesim unpaused. ::)

Title: Re: Missing sounds on 4.3
Post by Tim Capps on Jul 18th, 2009 at 6:38pm
This is maddening for both of us, I'm sure.  I'm tempted to uninstall everything, start with a clean install of FSX and add nothing but the 757 and see if Traffic X or some other version of FSUIPC or something is causing a conflict.  I suspect, however, that it is my Dell's onboard sound hardware and there's nothing that is going to work.  They're doing something different with the way their sound works than other devs.  I hope they stop :-)

I would think yours more likely to be some weird conflict, though, since I have never heard of anyone else having an unfixable power issue.  At least the sound issues are fairly well documented.

Title: APU , SOUNDS, ENGINES WT?
Post by 52niner on Jul 28th, 2009 at 6:49pm
Gosh this plane is so close to being great.

I cannot hear the APU start or shut down but I clearly see the sound files in the folder.

The engine noise can be heard but the engines are not running. I have tried this in many scenarios, with loading cessna first, shutting down manually , everything!

Any help with these issues would be appreciated I have tried to test but I am stumped!!!

I've downloaded more than one version of msvcr71.dll and stuck it everywhere (nearly) I can think of, and it doesn't work for me.  I wouldn't put mine in the hangar on account of just that, because it has too much else going for it, but it sure is frustrating.  If I knew for sure a sound card would fix it, I'd buy one just to have one less frustration in my flight simming world.

Title: I found the fix for the missing sounds.
Post by dominicana1930 on Aug 16th, 2009 at 6:06am
To be honest. The sound has been working all the time. The problem was that the volume of the sound configuration files is too low. So I change the sound volume a little higher and everything works to perfection. No mdll, no nothing. Just change the volume to a higher settings.

For example:

microsoft fight simulator x / Captain_sim / 757

[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\757\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1     <==== 1 must be change to 0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

then scroll down.......

; ----------- APU------------------

[Sound.0]
File=apu_start.wav
Id=10000
Volume=0.2  <=== Change 0.2 to 1000

[Sound.1]
File=apu_idle.wav
Id=10001
Volume=0.2    <=== Change 0.2 to 1000

[Sound.2]
File=apu_stop.wav
Id=10002
Volume=0.2 <=== Change 0.2 to 1000

You must change all of the volume numbers to 1000 to hear all the sound. Remember the higher the number the louder. You can change the numbers to your liking. The "conditioning" file for the air conditioning is loo low. Try changing the file for a higer, better one you can find maybe at avsim or so. Hope it help you.

I did all of the above and still nothing. I have great flap and gear sounds in the cockpit, but, no button or switch clicks.  Also, no attendant sounds.  Didn't even know we had those.  The CS 757 flies so much better than the another company 767 and I would rather fly it and the sounds would certainly enhance the experience.

Thanks

Hi all,

Can anyone assist in helping me with the no smoking & seatbelt chimes please? No matter how many times I turn the switches to on or off or auto. they are completely silent.

This is a shame as its a little bit more realistic and adds to the effects within the flight deck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Do you get other cabin noises like announcements and clicks?

I can tell you that, for me, the chimes reliably go away sometime after takeoff.  I don't think it is a huge stretch to imagine a situation where they would go away a lot sooner or never work at all.  (And I have still never heard an altitude chime.)

If every other sound works, then it might just be one of those things.  I am back to the engine sound in spot with engine off problem I thought I had fixed.  Intractable minor sound issues might just be one of those things for you, unfortunately.  Once I started using FS Passengers it ceased bothering me since I can turn the seat belts on and something happens (in FS Pax).

Good luck with your ding dong.

The main FSX folder is the top one that has everything FSX-related in it.  Look where all your programs are.

I started reading this thread with a confident smile as "all my sounds were working" or so I thought until I got to somewhere in the middle and my confident smile vanished. What? they have cabin crew announcements? I didn't hear a single one... then for the first time I peeked in the sounds folder and there they were.. I have upgraded my rig recently and its pretty decent (for the time being). Windows 7 64 bit with i7 920 overclocked to 4.0 Ghz and running very stable and have lot of games loaded on it.. FSX, of course being the main reason for upgrading.
After having read about the mixed luck that some folks were having with msvcr71.dll file, I was just wondering if this is the only required dll file from the microsoft c runtime library. Should we be installing the entire vc++ runtime? I think maybe the developers at CS can shine some light on this...
My main annoyance is not with not getting the announcements though. Like Tim, I really hate it when I toggle views and the aircraft when parked at the gate sounds like its going to suck the entire airport in and the engines are not even running. Has anyone figured out how to get rid of that?? From the threads I read, I tried everything but could not get rid of it.
I just love this plane and can't get enough of it, probably the reason I want it to be perfect..

Hi m113.

Try this fix from the topic Missing sounds on 4.3 :-

Chris Monroe wrote on May 21st, 2009 at 12:15pm:
Here's the previous fix:

Go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Captain_Sim\757.  Open and edit the sound configuration file file so that it reads "SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0".  That should take care of it.

Also, I have noticed that seatbelt/smoking signs are still not fixed completely.  Not that big of a deal, though.

Chris

It worked for me.

thanks for the help but that did'nt fix it .the problem im having is there are no switch clicks ,stewardess calls ,call outs ,warnings ,bells and wistles ,tcas ,radar alt callouts ,. ive been beating my head aginst the wall trying to figure it out. i recently upgraded to a better pc and i have not been able to get them to work at all.on my old pc i could get them to work if i reloaded the aircraft but only until about 200 ft agl then they would stop and not come back. i will do whatever it takes to get these sounds to work.

update
FIXED!!!!!! :D ;Di cant believe it! i installed the msvcr71.dll into the fsx root folder and whala. the only thing i havent heard is the collision avoidance system but i havent been close to another aircraft yet .i also would like to add that i love the new cockpit light setup i found here, the only gripe i had about the 757 [besides the sounds not working] was the night lighting. thank you for all your help.

I have done everything on the KB#1094, move the .dll to fsx folder edited the sound cfg.

Nothing makes the sound for the cockpit work, the same with the 767.

Running W7 64

Sound card has the very latest drivers and i tryed turning of all EAX etc but nothing.
Sent CS a ticket and they rejected it :-X nice  :(

Anyone got any ideas?

Don't know if this will help but since you've tried everything else here goes: some time ago I read that one of the fixes was to download the trial version of a prog called ABLETON LIVE. I did this and it worked for me. Even after I uninstalled the trial program it still worked for me. At the time the version was Ableton 7 but now it is 8 or 9. Mind u my OS was XP and not W7/Vista. Hope it works.

Sorry to disagree 737Pilot122.

But I have never had to drag the files to the desktop (or anywhere else) to edit them. I do them in the folder where they are in Flight Simulator X. And I always make backups before I change them.

This just depends on the security settings for the folder you're working in.
This is the reason I didn't install in program files on my current laptop, but just in C:/FSX...

Save the .ini file on your desktop then drag it back into the Captain Sim folder and select overwrite. I'm also having a few sound issues;

- 1,000 to go callout doesnt work
- Passenger sign alarms don't work in 2D panel (works in the VC).
- TCAS system test works but is extremely delayed in 2D panel (works in the VC instantly).
- Glide-slope warning doesn't seem to want to play correctly, it will play even if I am in the glide-slope.

I have the setting to "0" in the init file... I have also tried "1".

For me (727, 757, 767) I had to do the following

SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=1
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1

to

SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=0
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=0

But just that did not work, I had to install a codec package witch I got here, http://shark007.net/ after that all worked. I'm guessing I was missing some audio codec somehow.

My situation went like this, first I got plane then noticed no custom sounds like GPWS, Windows, buttons, APU, etc. So came to the forum looking for answers and saw this thread, attempted the changing the 1's to 0's and still no custom sounds. So I gave up for a bit and then came back to try again and thought about codecs for different formats of media and found the shark codec package, with just about all formats of audio and video. After install sounds work fine now. All I have to do now is just every time CS updates the installer have to rechange the 1's to 0's again.

Also running Windows Vista 64bit, with the codecs I first installed the Vista 32bit installer for my OS as required then ran the 64bit installer and I was up and running. Some of my favorite FSX aircraft now.

Added: Also I did not have to edit anything within the program, I just installed and all was fine.

Okay so I have the 4.4 version installed and I am trying to fly a leg from KPHL to KMCO. After starting the battery and going through the checklist, I start the APU. It does start and it gets to 100% but then after a few seconds, it shuts down. Also, even with a cold & dark cockpit, the engine sound is heard from an external view. When the APU starts there is no sound. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this happens?

Title: Re: APU woes
Post by StickMan on Apr 16th, 2010 at 10:07pm
Hey, I'm sure if your APU sounds are not working then other custom sounds like Windows, Buttons, GSWP etc sounds may not work also. There are threads here to help get the sounds working again.

http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1247377039

Sure there are more as well. I had same issue and that thread and installing audio/video codecs worked for me to get sounds working again.

APU starting and staying on issue has been resolved. It was due to an issue with FSUIPC. I now have the sounds in the VC all the time, but sometimes they are missing from the 2d. I did install the codecs as recommended, copied the MSVCR71.dll file to both C: and Main FSX folder (was already in System32) and Changed the sound file as suggested. I guess this is just a bug that I will have to live with until CS comes out with an update if they choose to fix it. At least I can do everything from the VC and most things from the 2d.

My 757 is missing the special captain sim sounds (TCAS, doors, announcements etc...)
I have them in my captainsim-folder but they are not used, also, in support there is a sound.ini mentioned, which is not present in the sound folder after install.....

Is this not included in the 757-200 base pack?

Find the sound config file here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Captain_Sim\757

open the sound config file and find SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1 and change the 1 to 0

For free liveries, including American Airlines, go to support and check in, and click on your product.  You will find a number of links, including Get Free Liveries.  Browse to your heart's content.

Most issues have been covered by previous posts, so you can probably find what you need right away through the search function.

Modify the sound.ini file in the FSX\Captain_Sim\757 folder. Back it up first. Just in case you mess it up. ;)

Change this line: SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=1 to this: SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0

It's the fourth line down from the top of the page. That should fix it.

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has already been asked but I can't find an explanation.

I had all my cockpit sounds in the 757 working perfectly until recently. All the custom CS 757 ones no longer play such as TCAS, passengers signs, buttons and knobs.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Since modified the sound file as follows:

[Common]
Refresh.Time=10
Sound.Directory=Captain_Sim\757\sound
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=0
SoundOffWhenSimDialogIsOpen=1
SoundOffWhenSimSoundIsOff=1

I've also put the msvcr71.dll into the main FSX folder.

Still no sounds.

Just Flight have advised me they are geting a lot of reports of Captain Sim products conflicting with anti-virus programs, hence the sound loss.  Has anyone else heard about the anti- virus issue?

Not sure why those would have any effect because I'm not slewing and not paused, but I tried changing those settings, as suggested:
SoundOffWhenSimIsSlew=0
SoundOffWhenSimIsPaused=0

Still no cabin alert chime. It's strange that the other cockpit sounds work properly. The fact that several others are having similar problems makes me wonder if the update to 4.4 broke the cabin alert.

Hi delta007.

Check-in to Your Profile > Select the Product > Customer Support > Search KB or Submit New Ticket > Search for KB #1094 and try everything in there. If it still not working, submit a new ticket.

Post by Hotspur92 on Dec 30th, 2010 at 11:55am
Hello guys,

I have a problem with the CAptain Sim 757 Cockpit sounds.
First of all I don't hear the "autopilot disengage aound", what can I do?
The next sound problem ist the GPWS. I don't get the altitude callouts.

For your information, I'm usinh the FSX.

Thanks in advance
