Title: Approach runway info not displayed
Post by Dillon on Nov 12th, 2008 at 5:51pm
Upon preparation for takeoff at the gate when I enter the runway info in the FMC I see the takeoff runway displayed on the lower display screen.  On approach when cleared for landing on a specific runway I in turn enter the runway in the FMC but that doesn't translate in a visible representation on the lower ND screen.  In version 1.4 this was not a problem and on days when visibility is low you could track a proper intercept path when default ATC gives you something less than desirable concerning a smooth transition to intercept the cleared runway.   I see the route and destination airport just fine but in 2.1 I'm no longer able to see the cleared runway come up on the lower ND screen.

Hey guys, Got the Arrival Runway to display last night in FSX ok. Just did a flight this morning in FS9 with version 2.1 and the arrival runway displays correctly.

So your saying this works for you at any time and at any airport???

Affirmative. Have been to about 10 different airports in the US and all show the arrival runway. Haven't tried any airports in Europe yet. If you will send me one of your flight plans I will try it out. Thanks.

Hi.
Do you mean it displays on the FMC?
I have no prob withthat if that`s the case.
My prob is its not displayed in the HSI display.
Shouldn`t you get the rwy I.D come up?

That won't be nessicary just explain to us exactly what your doing to get this to happen.  Are you only punching in the ILS frequency in the FMC and not on the main panel?  Are you leaving the setting on the main panel for ILS on 'Auto' and only entering the info in the FMC?  Did you upgrade from the block system or are you using a fresh version of 2.1?  From start to finish if you don't mind tell us what your doing...

Dillion, check out this link and look at he post eylab started. He gives a good example on setting up the arrival runway.
http://www.captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1208001573/30

The first thing i do when nearing the destination airport is to bring up the radio stack and enter the ILS freq for the arrival runway. Don't enter it on the MCP. That one is VOR/DME only.

I tried to enter the freq on the RDO DATA page in the FMC but that doesn't work. After following eylab's example leave the EFIS on HSI MAP Mode. that shows the arrival runway on the ND. If you switch to ILS Mode it shows the track and ILS freq but not the actual runway number. Hope this helps. I tried it in FSX and FS9 and it works.

Title: Re: Approach runway info not displayed in v2.1.
Post by Dillon on Dec 19th, 2008 at 6:38am
O.K. we're making headway here!!!  :)

First off I'm getting an ILS signal on the PFD screen by entering the ILS frequency on the center panel like you suggested (your example shows a 2D popup).  The bird performs a perfect ILS landing in FS9 by doing this and leaving the main panel NAV1 setting set to  'Auto' without any adjustment change.  All that's needed is the ILS frequency entered in the NAV1 section on the center console, GREAT...

Now I'm still not getting any runway data on the lower ND screen.  You should be able to go to the 'DEPT/ARRIV' page on the FMC and select the runway and see the track on the lower ND screen.  I'm off to try what 'eylab' suggested in the link you provided above to see if that works.  I'm starting to feel allot better about things but just the same CS shouldn't have us beta testing this thing.  I hope they fix this FMC issue once and for all... :-/

I'll let you know if 'eylab' suggestion works on my end to get the runway to show up on the ND screen.

Title: Better not edit the navigation database
Post by duesenwerni on Apr 11th, 2008 at 12:43pm
Hi gents,

just tried to edit the airport database on my own to correct the two false austrian airport codes LOXK (instead of LOWK) and LOXG (instead of LOWG). Opened the database with editor, corrected the entries and saved it.
Upon restart, the FMC didn´t find the corrected codes and the old false ones neither  :-[
Bingo, had to do a complete reinstall.
So, this is just to tell you it´s not a good idea to come and try this.

Regards,
Werner

Thats why Im asking for a converter or encoder or whatever. So we can edit the database and dont only rely on the other publisher.
On the page planpath.com of the actual publisher of navigation-database there is no update for CS database yet. Hopefully itll come soon.
schönen Gruß ausm Südharz ;)

Post by hamter on Apr 24th, 2008 at 8:58pm
I think I know now why your try failed. You have just edited the airport.db. But then there is the Runway.db, which is linked to the Airports.db, as well as the Sids.db and Star.db. You just need to find all entrys with LOXG or whatever in any of those files and it should work. I mean it makes sense that the aircraft crashed when having sids, stars rwys but no proper airport for it.

Edit: Even Cthulhus has made it

Title: How to program FMC
Post by duesenwerni on Apr 7th, 2008 at 12:55pm
Hi Juan,

to answer your question first - some airports have sids and stars and some airports don´t.

As for programming the fmc, it´s pretty straightforward. Here´s a little overview on how to do it (but don´t blame me for any mishaps, if I forgot something  ;))
You start with the position page entering your current position or airport, then go on to the route page and enter your departure and arrival airport´s codes.
If you already have a route stored, you can load it by pushing the "send request" button or LSK (line select key)
This also applies for Flightsimulator generated flightplans, so if you manage to build a Flightplan with the FS2004 Flightplanner, you can upload it to the FMC via the CDU. When building your plan via the FS9 planner, ypu can edit it and add waypoints, that would resemble the real world sid or star.
Once you have the departure and destination airports, you then go on to the dep/arr page and select your departure runway. Dont´t forget to activate your choice via the activte key. Some airports (by far not all  :'() have departures and arrivals in the database. If there´s one four yur airport, you can select it fom the depp/arr page. From there on you go and enter the missing waypoints of ypur route. Next on, you go to the NAV page and enter vour desired cruise altidude. Always check, if there is a discontinuity (or empty waypoint line). If there´s one, close it by selecting the next waypoint down the line and entering it into the empty field. Then push the activate key. When you have done that, your route is ready.
Of course, you also have to enter the correct weights in the PERF page.
You do this by loading your bird via the ACE preflight tool, selecting your number of pax and freight. Then you load FS9, load your flight and plane and go to the Fuel and Weights menu. There you take the empty weight, add the payload weight and get a number. Enter this number in the XXX.X format into the Perf page in the ZFW line, add reserves (4.0 should do nicely) and the CDU calculates the fuel and gross weight.
Next you go to the takeoff page. There you select the desired flap setting (15° should do) and the CDU calculates the V1, Vr and V2 speeds.
Also enter the CoG (center of gravity) from the perf init page.
Then taxi to the rway, set your flaps, line up and (in the 2d cockpit), advance the throttles a little, select the autothrottle and push EPR. Then go to the EPR selector panel (above the gear indicator) and select TO/GA.
Off you go. At positive rate of climb and gear up engage the autopilot and select LNAV and VNAV. Retract your flaps then and watch the autopilot do its work.
Apart from that I can only encourage you to take the manual part5 and study it carefully.
Always three greens and Happy landings from LOWK,
Werner

Post by jarcelus on Apr 7th, 2008 at 9:16pm
Thanks a lot Werner for your most comprehensive and clear tutorial on FMC programming. So far I have been able to do some basic flights, although no terminal procedures were found for may airport. AS other people have mentioned in some posts, the A/T does not keep the indicated speed and the plane almost always overspeeds.

I have another question: what CoG vale should I introduce in the FMC?

Best regards,

Juan

Title: Re: How to program FMC
Post by duesenwerni on Apr 8th, 2008 at 6:18am
Hi Juan,

I use the Cruise CoG that is calculated in the PER INIT page on the lower right.

And one important item I forgot to mention - to make use of the fmc and autopilot LNAV modes, you first have to align the IRS on the overhead panel. Luckily, the guys from CS have shortened the time it takes for the IRS to align. So befor you start programming the fmc you have to set the irs switches to align and -after the align lights go out - switch the irs to nav.

Werner

Dillon, Did a short flight this morning. KORF-KCLT. 80nm out from CLT I tuned the ILS for 18R on the radio stack. Then selected the ARR page and used the NEXT Page button to scroll down and sel 18R and clicked EXEC. Bring up the LEGS Page and Rwy 18R is displayed. While on the LEGS page Display the EFIS and switch to PLAN Mode. It should display the arrival runway.

Switch back to MAP Mode and use for rest of flight. Next, Display the APPROACH REF page to display rwy info.

Cleared for the approach and as you can see the arrival rwy 18R is displayed. At least it works for me. :)

Thanks to 'elyab's suggestion concerning the FMC I'm able to get everything I need for a full ILS landing with the runway info depicted on the ND screen.  Great job guys!!!  ;)

I still hope Captainsim addresses whatever is going wrong here but at least we have a workaround until then.  The CS757 is officially back out the hanger.  Thanks 'Aviator327' for the help...  :D ;D

Now that the aircraft is out of the hanger after a maintance check I would suggest doing a visual walk-around inspection to make sure nothing is missing prior to flight ie, wing, landing gear, ect. ;)

No secret. It doesn't work in FS9 with ver 2.1 or in FSX. I've tried but to no avail.

Post by Aviator327 on Dec 25th, 2008 at 11:49am
I must be inputing data incorrectly because as i near the destination airport on the Approach Ref page the Gross Landing Weight is blank and cannot obtain the Vref speeds. I thought the FMS calculated the landing weight based on fuel burn. Not even able to manually enter a landing weight. Also I've noticed that the ETA to the waypoints is blank on the ND. Any suggestions on what  I may be doing wrong? Thanks.

Title: FMC problems (T/D question, ND strange)
Post by jetman on Jul 11th, 2009 at 3:54pm
hello,

i have some major problems with my CS757. everythings working fine so far - besides the FMC and the ND. have to say that i'm quite experienced with both the another company 737/747 and the another company 767.

i already checked the manuals and the FMC tutorial, but still have some very strange problems. the first is, that the ND shows the choosen departure and arrival airports at the very same point. i tried that with different airports now and its mostly the same.

second - it is just not possible to use fs-flightplans in my 757. the only way making it work is doin it step by step by hand. considering the poor navdata support (things have changed now as far as i know - but also for the FS9 version?) heavy work. anyways, back to topic. what i know from all other boeing FMC's and from the manual is, that the T/D should be there as soon as i enter the departure and arrival airports (incl. runways and sid/star) - but whatever airport, sid or star i use, i will never get a T/D? any idea?
thanks

Title: Flight Plan Import Problem
Post by Justin Friedland on Dec 28th, 2008 at 3:33pm
I use FS Ops to build flight plans, and then export them as MSFS plans.

The problem comes when I try to import them into the FMS.  They come in as Long. and Lat. listings, no waypoint names; and the distances between way points are always 8nm.   :-/

Is there a fix for this, short of just inputting the whole flight plan by hand?

Thanks

Title: Re: Flight Plan Import Problem
Post by Joeflyer on Mar 25th, 2009 at 7:45pm
This isn't an OS problem. It's a CS problem. I use FS Navigator to plan all flights. Once I import a plan into the FMC, I get all Lat/Lon coordinates only....for FS9 of course. I then have to manually delete all of those coordinates and manually input waypoints, NDBs, VORs,etc. The FMC doesn't recognize fixes at all like Fix01, Fix02,etc. The big problem is that FS Nav has the most recent Airac cycle but the FMC doesn't. So, from a departure airport, depending on the runway of course, you have to see what waypoints, VORs,etc, are available for the departure runway based on the aircraft's display...using the 10nm range helps with this, and then enter them into the FMC. Many times the most suitable runway won't have any available, so you have to improvise the best you can based on the nearest available waypoints, etc. The flight track may end up looking like a steep 90 degree turn after lift off but at least you'll have a normal flight track afterwards...hopefully! :P

You have to import your flight plan in the FMS : ROUTE page>request SEND and then on the bottom right FLTSIM FPLS, and activate it.

You have to learn how the FMS works ;), that the only  good way to fly such an aircraft.

Title: FMC not working?
Post by jetman on Mar 27th, 2010 at 1:45pm
hello,
the FMC is not working correctly in my 757. i really dont know what i'm doin wrong.

netering the waypoints manually or using fs-flightplans, it is always the same. the route never appears on the ND, the FMC never calculates the BOD. the RTE page never shows the start or arrival airports. i bought the aircraft over one year ago (when it was like supercheap) and the problems from the beginning. i removed the aircraft only after some weeks of testing without any success. i reinstalled the version 2.2 now, still have that very same problem.

Post by ZS-RES on Sep 5th, 2010 at 6:53pm
Hi
I programmed the FMC from FAPE to FACT (about 1 hour flight ) with all waypoints as required.
Once 15min airborne I saw that the last waypoint (about 50nm from FACT) and the DTG & ETA to FACT was the same with same fuel details.
This was shown on the "PROG" selection.
Running FS9 & XP SP2.
Have done the route before without any problems, and all PREV flights no such "STUNTS"  ;D

I did all of that. As I stated in the original post, I even turned on the "Align" lights myself. I clicked, next, to "NAV". Nothing. Absolutely nothing works. Is there an update I may be missing? I just don't know what else to do. I think I may just uninstall the aircraft if this doesn't get resolved soon.

Just purchased complete package of B757.  Not a pilot. Is there anyway to turn of the FMC so I can fly the autopilot and airplane normally?  Having trouble starting engines, but I'll try to figure it out from one of the messages I just read.  Disabled veteran, hitting keys and moving mouse not very easy in my case.

You can't turn FMC off. If you want to just fly the airplane don't program FMC or fly using HDG/Vertical speed mode.

I just got CS B757 a few days ago and when I go to the FMC menu to import MS flight Plans, nothing happens. I can find all my FS plans but when I click on the LSK to use it, there is no response. I exit to the RTE page and choose activate. The only thing there is the departure and arrival airport id's. No leg or route info. Therefore, it is not importing anything. I know there is probably a button I need to click somewhere else but can't find out what.

I have been using the FMC for the PDMG B747 for a couple of years so using this type of FMC is not foreign to me.
