Title: TCAS Volume
Post by ASAE04 on Nov 18th, 2005 at 2:33pm

Does anyone know if the volume of the collision avoidance system can be lowered in the CFG somehow? I tried cockpit and navigation settings in the sound settings but still can't lower it.

Thanks

Yes I think it can ... I havn't tested or worried about it myself tho BUT heres what you can do

in the FS9/Captainsim/c130/sound folder theres the following sounds

clear.conflict
climb
descent
tcas.fail
tcas.ok
traffic

open those sound files in a sound editing program, like goldwave, which you can use for free at goldwave.com (i hope im not violating the rules by posting this)  open each sound in goldwave, click effects, and find volume: and just change the volume level, and hit save

should work, but just incase backup the files

thanks Brandon, I'll give it a try. I was flying approaches into LAX last night (I have lots of AI traffic there), got a go around and the CAS started sounding off. Unfortunately, I couldn't hear what the controller was asking me to do. Whew!

heh yea, i know how that is my TCAS wouldnt shh shh either, so i turned it off on my approaches to almost anywhere ... thats a good idea tho lowering the volume i think ill do that ...

was also fun to fly a pattern and just monitor the traffic on it =P

not to change the subject or anyhting, but how do you get TCAS to work?  I cant get mine to work and Captian sim said it was a glitch.  Now you guys are saying it works?  HMM

As far as I know, it works fine. I'm not that experienced with TCAS so I can't tell you if all the functions work properly. But from what I've seen (AND HEARD) all is well.

I have pretty much a bone stock FS9 install with the exception of FSUIPC. I'm wondering if you have FSUIPC installed? Just a guess, but it might be required.

To adjust the volume of any system's sound please:
1. Open MSFS2004/Captain_Sim/130/sound.ini
2. Edit any Volume=XX line. XX=0-1.0 (0=mute 1.0 - maximum volume)

the TCAS audio messages are #56-61 in the .ini file.

------------------

C-130 does not use the FSUIPC at all.

------------------

Most of the TCAS problems described above are related to the power loss due to generators disconnection. Already fixed in SP1.

If you do have the power onboard but the TCAS still doesn't work, that 99% means you are not on Windows XP system. Search Technical Suport System for details.

Well, all was fine...... Now no volume from TCAS whatsoever! Worked for a couple flights then stopped.
