I went into AVG and excluded my entire FSX folder (don't have the time or patience to exclude each individual file + don't know which is the culprit among hundreds of files).

Now, FSX crashes whenever I select the 727.  707 is fine. Uninstalling and going back to 2.4.  This is a disappointment and been a waste of time.  ::)
