Title: Vref / Weight Calculator
Post by Tim Capps on Nov 23rd, 2014 at 9:07pm
I can't change flaps setting -- it's just frozen. The needle moves, but the flaps indicator doesn't change. Is this a known issue?

I've never had it happen.

Have you suffered from lost the power (from the generators/APU/Ground Power) to the 737, which might prevent the flaps from moving?

Are your hydraulic switches on? The flaps use the hydraulic A system under normal operation.

This might not help much but can you check if you have "advanced animations" enabled in the sim's options? I think it's under that graphics tab.

This is not about the flaps They work fine. There's a weight/Vref calc gauge on the panel. You dial in your flap setting and the pointer indicates your Vref speed. Pretty cool if it works. Right now the needle moves to different Vref speeds but the animation on the dial doesn't work. It just stays stuck on 30. It should move to other landing flap settings. This gauge is between the backup artificial horizon and the fuel gauges.

Ah, now I made sense of the title and description. Sorry, Tim, I read that the wrong way.

We featured that gauge and some related readings in our bug list (which now is two years old). http://captainsim.org/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1346764500

Ah, okay. I read that list awhile back, but will revisit it. Odd that it would click the needle along, but that the knob would be frozen. Unfortunate.

Hopefully this will be addressed in the upcoming v1.1 update! ;)

Tanya said they are working on it, so I believe that that they really are.

To explain, we are not questioning that there's work going on. After all, we can't check that and have to rely on beliefs/statements only.

What we can gauge is the time between product release and.. now. Over two years for the first SP would be, even if it was released today, nothing to rave about. This does not judge the assumed ingredients of course. Maybe it's an amazing package waiting to be released.

And I joked about the "upcoming" phrase, which, after those two years, indeed is funny.  :D

What CoolIP said. No offense intended toward you, Mark.

It's been a long time to correct significant flaws we have all beat to death here and elsewhere. I have spent two or three days trying to unlock the mystery of CWS. It may work for others, but that's no help to me. It just doesn't work. I can't figure out a way to make it disengage for fresh inputs. When I finally do, it overcorrects to the point of endangering the aircraft. It's not even close to being functional.

Mark, who has been a bigger defender of Captain Sim than I have? When someone like me is this irritated, CS should take note, I believe. Oh, I can fly the airplane, just don't use the the PDCS, or the CWS, and be ready to convert kilograms to pounds in your head.

I'm done with the thing until it is fixed, which is a shame, because whoever does their art really knocked themselves out on this one, and it fills a niche no other product does, except the DC-9.

The update is in development and will be released as soon as it is ready. We are sorry about the delay.

Ah, poor Tanya, thrown to appease the restless natives LOL.  Well, if you say so, I'll look forward to it. It seems like so few things to bring it to perfection, but I realize there are other priorities, but... This one is special, though, Tanya. A classic without a flight engineer's station. Perfect for short hauls. And that panel is truly a work of art. Tell whoever does that I recognize how difficult it is to capture the subtle gradations of metal under light, and the tiny imperfections in the surface. That's what no one else can do.
