Title: All gauges are showing up black
Post by captjames on Dec 30th, 2013 at 3:08pm
I have recently re-installed the 737 however for some reason all of the gauges are appearing black.  Has anyone else experienced this or know how to rectify this issue?

This probably isn't your problem, but I noticed the other day that when it was getting on towards dark they turn black and you have to turn on the overhead panel lights.???

I'll try that, although I doubt it'll work.  It's literally all of the gauges  :-/

I've given that a go and that doesn't work either.  This is really annoying!

Try reinstalling the 737-200 Base Pack. Use the repair option when asked to either repair or uninstall it. If you are using Vista/Win7/Win8, make sure to install it using the "run as administrator" option - this is done by right mouse button clicking on the installer, csp732_1000.exe, and selecting "Run as administrator" from the list that pops up (it's 2nd from the top).

See if doing that gives you your gauges.

Hi Mark,

I have tried the repair option and of course using run as admin to no avail.

What a pain!  I don't know what else to do.

Hi James,

Check the texture config file in the repaint that you are trying to load, it should only show...

[fltsim]

fallback.1=..\..\CS_B737-200\texture
fallback.2=..\..\CS_B737-200\texture\bump
fallback.3=..\..\CS_B737-200\texture\spec
fallback.4=..\..\CS_B737-200\texture\night

... for the default and advanced 737-200.
I had problems with black gauges in some of my aircraft where it had the additional line;

fallback.5=..\..\B737_800\texture

Just having the texture config at the top solved the problem for me.

Cheers,

Nathan

Have you tried doing a complete uninstall and reinstall, which includes reactivating the product, as described in KB685? This might fix the problem.

KB #685:

Q: How to reinstall a product?

A:
Quite a number of "issues" are caused by using of outdated version of a product. Prior to submitting a support request please make sure you have current version of a product.

To reinstall a product please perform the following steps in exact order:
Uninstall the product:
1. Go to Start> Programs> Captain Sim.
2. Select the product you wish to uninstall.
3. Click uninstall icon.

Install the product:
4. Make sure you have the latest version of the product
5. Run the product installer (the .exe file) and follow the prompts.
Please note: valid Order Number and Internet connection are required for installation/activation.

Please make sure you run the installation file as Administrator and that "User Account Control" is disabled (for Vista and Windows7), it limits admins ability to install programs.

If regular reinstall did not fix your problem you can try to clean registry.
Please be careful and do it on your own risk!

How to clean Registry:
1. Uninstall the product
2. Go to Start> Run. Type: regedit, click OK.
3. Find the product entry in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\ (please note, for Windows 64bit versions it is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CaptainSim\)
For example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\CaptainSim\C130XPRO
Make sure you are going to delete correct folder!
4. Delete the product entry folder.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Install the product.

If you stil have issues and the above does not help we must admit your system configuration is a rare exception. You can try to install the product on another system or request a refund.

From: General / Download/Installation (QID 685)

The important part of KB#685 is the section about How to clean Registry. Doing that will require you to reactivate the 737, but could fix your problem. It could be a good idea to use the Manual Offline Activation, as this will allow you to do more than 3 attempts at reactivating, before your order number gets locked.

I have tried that and really hoped it would work, however it didn't much to my dismay.  Thanks very much for your help anyway!  :-[

Download the installer again. The one you have might have downloaded may be corrupted. It does happen every now and then. It has happened to me before. ;)

Check-in to Your Profile > Product > Extended Download Service > Get New Links

It might be worth disabling you Anti Virus software as well, it might be interfering with the download.

You could try doing a repair of FSX.
If you use FSX with SP2, you will need to repair FSX, then reinstall SP1 and SP2.
If you use FSX with Acceleration, you would need to do a repair of FSX, then a repair of Acceleration.
All you do is insert the FSX Disk1 into your DVD drive, it will ask if you want to uninstall or repair, select repair.

James, I saw this entry by Tim Capps on the 707 forum, I wonder if it may work for you:

"PROBLEM SOLVED. Sometimes when you uninstall something, FSX files get sucked into the void, too. This is often the cause for BLACK GAUGES or, in my case, BLACK CONTRAILS. In the A++++ library, search for "gauge recovery." Run the simple program that installs all your original GAUGES and EFFECTS that might have gone missing. It doesn't mess with anything else; just restores your FSX to what it should be. It fixed my problem in less than ten seconds."

Hope this fixes it,

Nathan.

Hi nathan,

Thanks for your post.  I guess I should of mentioned that i managed to fix this issue by re installing Acceleration.  the only issue I have now is the V-One gaugue isn't showing up. I'm following the readme to a T but no joy.  Well at least the 732 is now flyable :)
