and they'd end up sitting on a Shelf collecting dust or get broken.
Not mine. All of my Airfix models got blown up with fireworks (penny banger/ha'penny banger)! I would spend hours gluing  and painting them, then hand flying them. Then I would put them on a shelf and a few weeks later...KABOOM!. I'd blow the crap out of them. If I didn't blow them up, I set them on fire with metho! Either way, they didn't last very long.

Worst part was that I had some really nice ones. A C-47 "Puff the Magic Dragon" Gunship (with 3 Gatling Guns). It was given to me by a USAF airman, a friend of my father, who he serve with at Ubon, Thailand in '66. I loved that plane, but within weeks it was destroyed. Same went for my beautiful Hawker Hurricane (it was a larger model than what I normally got), which I spent weeks on building and painting. A few weeks later...KABOOM!...it was nothing but melted and mangle plastic. For some reason, it's what I did from the age of 10 until the age of 16. Every single one was destroyed. One time, I set fire to model, but it wasn't burning fast enough, so I grabbed the metho bottle and threw some more at it! WOOSH! My brother, who was standing nearby got his eyelashes, eyebrows and fringe singed (long hair was the fashion in the mid 70's), and he was jumping around, turning in circles and screaming about being on fire, so I threw him on the ground and told him he was only singed, not on fire (he was 11 and I was 16 at the time). Man it was so funny to watch him carrying on like that. I had hysterical laughing fits every time I thought or talked about it. I still do. Gee I'm mean.

Don't forget that that was back in the days before the PC!
I first bought FS2.0 (SubLOGIC) back when I bought my Commodore 64 back in '84! Boy. It sure has changed since then!
