Nice screenshots JetRanger. I don't know about you, but I converted the John Travolta livery for the Legendary 707, for my 707 Captain.
Great job on the interior too. Looks great. I promise not to bother looking for any mistakes in the textures, I'd rather see it for what it is - a nice touch up of the 707. ;) |

Ya that's what I did too, changed the file names to make it work, glad it did !!
Now I've only got like 70 more Jets to repaint interiors on, each one different. some are 707's, the 727's and the 737's. think it'll take me a while each one has to be unique depending on the livery the era etc. I've got a Jetliner load of Textures to use that are real fabric textures, not some paint. lotta resizing, cropping and making them work. Also gotta love that Clone brush tool, makes things a lot easier. there will be more in time. tad bit time consuming painting all these ! Jetranger. |

That's a lot of work. I know I couldn't do it, or it would take me a lot longer. That's because every time I start FSX to see what they looked like in the model, I would not be able to stop myself from doing a flight! :o ;D

Trouble is my middle name, so only I can keep me out of it. As for the Topless Bar, I can't remember when the last time I went to one, but I have no doubt it was some 24 years (or more) ago, when I was still single! :O |

Ya, I was a 12 Year Veteran of those Clubs back in the 80's & 90's, since I bought this house in 2000, I kinda stayed out of em', that and I took up this Flight Simming hobby in 2002.
Amazing the amount of money I saved, well kind of, Buying payware Aircraft & scenery and Computers. lot less Drama and hassle anyway, 707's & 727's don't B**ch and have attitudes, thankfully ! my Aircrafter utility now says I have 4,867 Aircraft in my FSX Gold Simulator :-? :o I must be nuts ! :-/ Dunno' if its a hobby or I turned into a collector ?? |

You dropped one vice for another. A lot of people do that. Like I quit smoking, after more than 40 years, and took up eating instead. My weight went from about 60 kilos (132 pounds) up to 73 kilos (161 pounds). So now I am fatter, but probably healthier. I now only have the occasional cigarette. I also shouldn't "talk" about smoking, because that always makes me want to have one. :o
I do not want a utility to tell me how many aircraft I have! Only about 4 are freeware, the rest I have bought. I have a specific folder in Outlook that only has receipts for products bought for FS9/FSX. It is a big folder, and I have spent a small fortune on addons! |

Worst part was that I had some really nice ones. A C-47 "Puff the Magic Dragon" Gunship (with 3 Gatling Guns). It was given to me by a USAF airman, a friend of my father, who he serve with at Ubon, Thailand in '66. I loved that plane, but within weeks it was destroyed. Same went for my beautiful Hawker Hurricane (it was a larger model than what I normally got), which I spent weeks on building and painting. A few weeks later...KABOOM!...it was nothing but melted and mangle plastic. For some reason, it's what I did from the age of 10 until the age of 16. Every single one was destroyed. One time, I set fire to model, but it wasn't burning fast enough, so I grabbed the metho bottle and threw some more at it! WOOSH! My brother, who was standing nearby got his eyelashes, eyebrows and fringe singed (long hair was the fashion in the mid 70's), and he was jumping around, turning in circles and screaming about being on fire, so I threw him on the ground and told him he was only singed, not on fire (he was 11 and I was 16 at the time). Man it was so funny to watch him carrying on like that. I had hysterical laughing fits every time I thought or talked about it. I still do. Gee I'm mean. JetRanger wrote on Nov 11th, 2013 at 4:22am:
I first bought FS2.0 (SubLOGIC) back when I bought my Commodore 64 back in '84! Boy. It sure has changed since then! |

You sure you ain't related to me ??
I did that with all my Model 1/25 scale semi trucks, back in the 80's. only I took a BB Rifle and used em' for target practice,, regret it now , have you seen what some of those plastic model truck kits go for on EBay from the 1970's & 80's, holy cow. if only i'd known then what I know now !! and the internet, whats that ??? in 1980 we'd thought it was some kind of Fishing net to catch things with. Downloading ??? whats that a new Drug ?? Ohh well, live and learn. 8-) |

Hello.
I have flown the 727 since the end of 2010, and now I'm thinking of buying the 707. But the 707 without the Travolta's V-Jet "is not complete". Although appears a V-Jet texture for download on the Captain Sim website, the information "Page can not be found" appears when attempting to download it. Could someone please tell me if there is any alternative texture to download? Best regards Cristiano Mueller |

Hi Markoz
I downloaded and installed the V-Jet texture. Everything is working except for one reason: The landing gear doors and the rear cargo door are transparent. I have other two Varig liveries with the same problem. I installed the V-Jet using the ACE and the Varig liveries by adding them on the aircraft.cfg. Is there something I'm doing wrong? I searched here on the forum and at the Captain Sim Costumer Support about it, but I didn't find anything (English is not my native language, maybe I searched with wrong terms). Any help would be appreciaded. |

I just looked at mine and it is the same! I have fixed it now. When I converted the BMP to DDS using DXT1 Bitmap Manipulator, I was following the instructions in the cs707_manual1.pdf: HOW TO CONVERT LEGENDARY 707 (FS9) LIVERIES? We advisedly used Legendary 707 exterior textures layout on the 707 Captain to provide maximum of compatibility with the Legendary 707 free liveries. The following steps will help you to convert and add the Legendary 707 free liveries to the 707 Captain: 1. Take bmp files b1, b2, b5, b6 from any Legendary 707 free livery zip. 2. Create new texture.yournewliveryname subfolder in ...\SimObjects\Airplanes\CS_B707-300 and copy the b1, b2, b5, b6 files there. 3. Create and copy 256x128 thumbnail.jpg into the same subfolder. 4. Convert the b1,b2,b5,b6 bmps into DDS as follows: b707_b1_t.dds - DXT3 WITH ALFA b707_b2_t.dds - DXT3 WITH ALFA b707_b5_t.dds - DXT1 NO ALFA b707_b6_t.dds - DXT1 NO ALFA 5. Add new [fltsim.XX] section to aircraft.cfg See how is says to convert the b1 & b2 to DXT3 WITH ALPHA? Well I did that. I converted them to DXT1 NO ALPHA this time, and they look fine. The orange on the textures is now red! So remove the first one, download the the one in the link below, then add it using ACE. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xgj322qkwp6j6o1/John%20Travolta%20707%20Captain%20FSX_1.1.zip?dl=0 It should be fine this time! :D ;D |

Not a bother to me at all. ;) I did notice that the red was orange, which annoyed me, but I did not notice that the gear doors and rear cargo door were transparent. It was simply a case of testing the b707_b1_t.dds and b707_b2_t.dds files using DXT1 NO ALFA. Fortunately, it worked great. ;D |

Markoz; I will ask you this here, because I don't know where to ask, and I don't want to open a new topic only because this. You said about "files using DXT1 NO ALFA". I found a VARIG 707 livery at Captain Sim website with the same problem (transparent doors). What I ask you is: is it difficult to change this?? I need to have "Masters degree" in Photoshop (or equivalent software) to do this? Thank you for your attention. |

This is how I do it (and Photoshop has nothing to do with it).
1a. I open the BMP/DDS files with DXTBmp.exe (you can download it from here: http://mwgfx.co.uk/download/dxtbmpxnew.exe). 1b. When opening the BMP/DDS files, I right click on them and select *Open with 2a. To convert a BMP to DDS DXT1/DXT3/DXT5 (with Alpha), from the menu I select Image > Flip Image and Alpha 2b. To convert BMP to DDS DXT1 (no Alpha), from the menu I select Image > Flip Image (seeing as you won't be using the Alpha, there is no need to Flip it!. 3. I then select File > Save as > DDS Texture, and then select, from the Save as type:, either DXT1 (no alpha), DXT1, DXT3 or DXT5, and then click on **Save. * The first time you want to open BMP/DDS files with DXTBmp.exe, you will need to browse for it, so make sure you take note of where it gets installed (mine is NOT in the default location). Once you've done that the first time, DXTBmp should be available in the list for opening BMP/DDS files. I actually chose DXTBmp to be the default program for opening DDS files, so I only need to double click on them to get them open in DXTBmp. ** If I have opened the file in DXTBmp using the right click Open with, it will automatically want save it in the folder from where it was opened. Seeing as the BMP files are being saved as DDS, you don't need to worry about the original BMP file as it will nt be changed, but if you are saving it as a modified DDS file, then it will sk to overwrite the original file, so make sure you back up all the original files BEFORE making any changes to them!. I hope these instructions are clear enough for you so you can do it yourself. Please let me know if they aren't clear enough! ;) |
