Title: Problem starting engines Post by John Croft on Mar 2nd, 2013 at 5:08pm
Guys, I am having an issue getting the engines started. With the APU running, and as far as I can tell all switches configured correctly, when I go to ground on the start switch they will spool up but will not light off. Reading another post I saw someone mention hitting CTRL-SHFT-F4 before going to ground on the start switch, so I tried that and it worked. My question is, what is that command doing and why do I have to do it to get the engines to light off?

It is the Mixture Full Rich command. My guess is the default plane has mixture set to off and since no mixture exist for the jet but FSX expects it to be full, it simply will not start as it has no fuel. If you have mixture set to one of your quad levers, make sure it is full before trying to start. If you have FSUIPC you can create a custom profile and remove the mixture, assignment that will sometimes solve the problem.

I knew that it was default for full rich, but since that is not an option on a turbine engine I would think it would be disabled by default. And this is the only add on a/c, out of about 15, that I have this issue with. |

It is more of a FSX thing. Regardless of it being a jet, If you put the mixture in Cutoff the engines will stop because FSX thinks you want to cut the fuel to them.

I thought CS fixed this problem in V1.1? Haven't tried starting the engine in 1.1 yet. The reason for this is because other developers automatically trigger Ctrl+Shift+F4 when you flick the engine start switch or something, while CS kinda forgot to do it maybe. :-/

I guess maybe my point was that out of all my turbine add ones, which include
CS 727, 707, 757, and 767, another company 737NGX and 747 A couple of CRJ's ERJ ATR-72 This is the ONLY one that I have to press that key combination to start the engines. Maybe I can figure out a macro to avoid it. |

The CS737 is similar to the 777, except that the engines can be started with the "Mixture Levers" set to 1%! I must admit that I have not tried them at 1% on the 777. Yet. :D

I would bet that any value as long as it is not cutoff will allow the engines to start.

I think so too. The difference is that the 777 Fuel Control Switches are either 100% or 0% by clicking on them (they can't be dragged by the mouse). In the 737, when you drag the Fuel Control Switches with the mouse, they can be positioned anywhere from 0% to 100%. But. Having said that, using CTRL+SHIFT+F2 (or CTRL+SHIFT+F3) I would assume that you could set the Fuel Control Switches at anything between 0% and 100%. Going by the FSX SDK, I am of the opinion that the animation code for the Fuel Control Switches is wrong. No offence Captain Sim. ;) |
