I have been doing some testing of the 707 Captain in Windows 8. These are my findings so far.

Problem #1 - After starting the 707, is just starts rolling forward. The Parking Brake is ON and the throttle levers are at IDLE (showing such in the VC), yet it starts to roll and I can't stop it. Using the joystick button #1 (MS SideWinder Force Feedback 2), or the keyboard period (.) doesn't stop it! Using full reverse will stop it, but then it will start going in reverse (backwards) if I use the reversers. Weird!

Problem #2 - I can't turn the 707! Using the joystick swivel grip, or the keyboard (Num 0 and Num Enter). I have also tried using differential braking to turn it keyboard (Num * and Num -), but to no avail to no avail.

These problems do not always happen, but they do happen to me.

The Doppler Navigation works fine. CIVA INS is yet to be determined. On the first try, the 707 headed of in a direction that told me it was not controlled by the INS or VOR navigation modes (yes the Doppler/INS Navigation switch was set to INS).

If anyone else is having better luck than me, please say so!

No, none of those problems.

Windows 8 does appear to have problems with its USB controllers and FSX.

Probably both your joystick and (USB?) keyboard had stopped working.

I have raised the issue with Microsoft but no answer as yet.

Nope. Both were working fine at the time. If I moved the joystick throttle, the throttle levers in the 707 moved up with it. I could still pan view too. So the joystick was working fine. I could still mouse over and activate buttons with the mouse, so I assume it was working correctly too (it certainly seemed to be).

Another interesting thing on my last flight (an INS test). When I turned the A/P OFF, the Pitch Trim Wheels on the A/P (2D and VC) started spinning and wouldn't stop! ?Nothing I did would stop them. I turned the A/P ON and OFF several times, but they still kept spinning. I have reinstalled the 707 several times, but it keeps doing weird things. I can at least fly the 707 IF it doesn't start rolling when I start it. All the flights I've done, except for the first CIVA INS test (mentioned in my OP), have worked really well.

Not to worry. I'll keep on trying. See if I can figure out what might be going on. I am suspicious about my saved default flight, which might have been done after using a CS plane and so it would include all that extra stuff, under [Captain Sim], in the saved file. I recreated a new default flight last night (well at about 5am this morning) but I have not tried another flight in the 707 since then. I'll report back once I have.

Not sure if this would help with your 707 creeping problem, but the one thing I did find with W8 is that the default Windows GUI calibration for my throttle was way off compared to W7.

The only way I could get the full back (X52) idle setting I needed was to calibrate my throttle through FSUIPC.

I'm using a Saitek X52 set-up. In W7, I didn't need FSUIPC to have the throttles at full back position low enough to idle correctly. When I installed W8, I was seeing some creeping on aircraft at full back (X52) and when I checked the Windows calibration GUI, it showed that the default setting was much higher than in W7.

The calibration with FSUIPC is done (this was one of the primary reasons for why I paid for FSUIPC in the first place). ;D

I have it set so that when my joystick throttle lever is full back, the throttle is set at 0% (the stop position). This is/was reflected in the VC with the throttles showing 0%, but it still rolled forward. Parking brake was set and using the joystick button 1 (set for the brakes) it just would not stop rolling away on me.

I plan to try the 707 again, but I'm just trying out a few others at the moment, to see how they perform in Windows 8.

MarkOz not sure if this helps but since I installed REX Essential PLUS I have some strange issues with my joystick (Logitech) and FSX. What I find is when FSX starts that the joystick controls are no longer calibrated or appear to be mis-assigned, I have to redo the profile on the joystick and check the FSUIPC as well before I can do any flying as everything is all over the shop and a key or button assigned to say flaps does nothing and the button assigned to rudder will operate flaps etc. This is becoming very tedious as no brakes and no undercarriage control via the joystick other. I takes me several goes at reprofiling and recalibrating to make it work as it should. Ah yes and I also get windows hangs and conflicts until this is all resolved

I have a sneaking suspicion that it is to do with the internet com connection protocols being used by REX now as it appears to harness or use an Apple Mobile device communication program to connect to the servers and download weather etc. The reason I suspect REX and its com program is that I never had these issues until I installed REX Essential.

Worth considering as it seems unlikely that Windows 8 would radically remap a lot of keyboard or mouse calls and or the general windows behaviour (C++ and VB programming is relatively stable and unlikely to be redone by MS in anyway and the NET programs similarly stable and not that different, I suspect it is an Apple v Window issue make itself known via REX or similar.

I am not using any other add-ons in FSX on Windows 8 other than the Captain Sim 707-300/300C/E-3/VC137, 737-100/200/200ADV/200C/200F, 757-200/300/200F, 767-200/300/300F/Tanker/AWACS, 777-200ER/200LR, B-52, C-130 X-perience, Space Shuttle, Weather Radar, Weapon for FSX.
In other words ALL CS FSX add-ons, plus FSUIPC4 v4.8.5.9. No other FSX add-on's at all.

I am encountering some interesting problems in the CS767 (currently doing a flight) and CS727, but I will list them in their forums, not here.
