I my current computer is lagging behind (pun intended) for games, so I think it's time to build a new one. (Actually the computer I'm on was factory built :-/) Here's what I'm looking at...

Intel i5 quad core @ 3.3GHz (3.7 w/ Turbo Boost)
ASUS P8Z77-V LK USB 3.0 Motherboard
750W PSU
Windows 7 64 bit
Nividia GTX 560
GIGABYTE GZ-X8BPDX-400 Case
250 GB HDD (FSX Install)
600 GB HDD (OS, Misc)
8GB RAM

I've triple-checked all this will work together... What do you guys think?

BTW: My old computer's case and PSU are both too small for any improvements... I could replace but it's more trouble than it's worth.

Get a velociraptor and put your fsx install on that.

And a smaller SSD for windows, that will make a HUGE difference.
But only put windows on the SSD, nothing else.

The SSD is something I looked at, but right now it seems a little out of budget. I added up everything on a calculator and it was ~$760. I'm trying to go under $800. I might expand later though to an SSD for the speeds. (I'm assuming that's why you said that though)

Also, I think I like this case better. It has a clear panel on the sides and is only 5$ more! :D

Yep an SSD will speed up your system far more than any cpu will.

All cpu's are plenty fast enough these days, despite what fanboys will tell you. There is a LOT of fud around what's needed for FSX.

SSD will NOT speed up your fsx though that's why I suggest a velociraptor for that and SSD for windows only. You only need 60-80GB for that.

The more raw cpu power you have per core the better for your frames when combined with a decent graphics card.

SSD for fsx is the way to go but it wont give you more frames per second but improve the loading time of the sim and thats about all it will do.

I run windows and fsx on there own ssd drives and the improved loading time is well worth it even more so now that ssd's have had a massive price drop as i plan to buy 2x 256gig ssd drives and raid them for fsx/p3d and buy a 128gig ssd for windows as the 60gig one im using atm is a little small.

When you buy your first ssd.. use it for windows as the boot times will blow your socks off :)

but yeah fs_addict that build should do you well and give you some nice performance :)
