Title: Over my head....by about 20K' Post by stealthchef on Jul 21st, 2012 at 5:55pm
Hey gang. Is there any kind of tutorial for the B-52 like the one for the C-130? After a year or so I can handle the 130 alright. I just downloaded the BUFF yesterday and, yup, I'll call it. Way out of my league. GF is gonna be lonely tonight cause I'll be reading the literature a ton, but I really got a lot out of the 130 tutorial. Is there something like that for the 52? Appreciate the forum. Thanks as always. :D

No. Unfortunately there is no tutorial for the B-52. :(
I just fly it as best as I can. There is some advice in this forum from a few former real world B-52 pilots that have helped me quite a lot. |

Eh well. Can't hurt to ask. I'll read up the rest of the forum and see what I can get out of that. Surely will have some good stuff. Thanks man.

Can you suggest a short-ish flight to use for practice?

Not really. The only short flights I do, are usually leaving from KNKX and flying around for a while, then returning to KNKX.
Just load the B-52 Cleared for takeoff (KNKX) and pick a destination of your choice. The range of the B-52 is good, I have done 5000nm round trips in it with fuel to spare. If you want to simulate taking bombs and a reduced fuel load, then you cant go as far, but you can add more fuel later (pretending that you met a tanker to do in-flight refueling. |

I get what you mean. I got spoiled because I can go from Yeager to Tri-state and that's a nice little hop to learn things. It's very different with the buff. Hate the left coast of the US anyway. Their girls all melt in the sun. I can try Dayton, OH to Baltimore or something like that. Clue a guy in if you would tho, where is the autopilot on the console? I learned how to turn the terrain radar on. But I can't find the thing to figure it out. Maddening really.

Here is an image of the VC, showing the Autopilot on the Aft Pedestal. The circle object is the Flight Director Switch. Turn it on or the Autopilot won't engage. I hate to think of how many times I have wallowed around the skies in the B-52 trying to figure out why the Autopilot won't engage. :-[
If you haven't already got them, get the manuals from here: http://www.captainsim.com/products/x520/manuals.html. |

you can search youtube for videos. There are some good video's explaining how to do things to include engine start on the B-52.
