Title: Awesome flight!
Post by David Paul on Jul 21st, 2012 at 10:03am
Yesterday I took the 727-200F out for a spin for the first time in a while.   I flew from KORD to KLGA on the J146 and then the Milton 4 arrival, which is a very busy STAR, one where you have to stay ahead of things.

I arrived in the NY metro area right as dusk was setting in, and it was gorgeous!   There was thick cloud as I descended, headed for Rwy 4 ILS landing.  There were brief breaks in the cloud letting me and the FO catch glimpses of the bridges and buildings and such, it looked so real!

I manually flew most of the final in gusty and variable winds, it was a real rodeo getting the thing down to the runway, but I brought it in nicely and totally greased it!   Fantastic!

I have been lately flying in UK and Europe using FMS equipped planes, so I had sort of forgotten how fun it is to fly airways with just the NAV radios.

Anyone else had a fun flight in the 727 lately?

Sure! I fly in europe from monday to friday, and in holidays i can fly in USA in vatsim   ;) I fly 727-100 and 707-300. Modern jets not for me now :)

But last two trips I flew 707 freighter. Love to see sunrise or sunset through the cockpit windshield  :D You know, i flew right through the thundercloud last flight. Man! I'll NEVER do it again! That was shaky!

I dont have INS in my 727, so i fly with radio navigation only, it always fun to fly SIDs\STARs.
Another fun i having in 727 - is to fly out of major airport into several regional ports, and after several legs between small regional ports, return to major airport again. Man, that a kinda feeling of "going back to civilization" ;D Its cool to plan 3-4 legs per day and have entire day of simming! during summer i can do it :)
