Well I have been having the same problem for years!!!! It is extremly frustrating but it is due to the limitations of our system's memory, I think. Are you running on an older computer? Mine is 7 years old  :o

I have upgraded many components but DDR2 memory is just old. Im planning a new machine on Newegg.

I have a pretty high end machine, only 9 mos old, with an i5-2500k clocked @4.2, 8Gb of fast memory and a GTX 580 gpu running Windows 7. I also use the latest tweaks from Kosta on the AVSIM Hardware Forum, including *highmemfix*.

I get *fatal error* crashes all the time, but always when replaying FSRecorder frc files and changing views frequently using the drop down menu in the CS 727. Don't know if it has to do with CS or not--- probably not. I also suspect that there are possible problems with FSX in Windows 7. Don't know. I don't remember these crashes when I had a lessor pc on XP. I am also wonder if using *full screen*, mode as opposed to *Windowed* mode, has anything to do with it.?? Too many variables and possibilities to figure it out.

So you get fatal errors from FSRecorder, too? Have you made any progress with that, because I have the same problem and I'm at a loss...  :-?

I usually use FRAPS when recording.I have used FS recorder, but this is happening even without using those.I guess I'll have to use a process of elimination to track it down.

FSRecorder records just the flight data which allows the replay of the flight or portion thereof. Then you use FRAPS to record individual video clips while FSRecorder is replaying the flight. They are two separate functions. Maybe there is a conflict between FSRecorder and FRAPS????

I will try to induce the Fatal Error crashes using just FSX Instant Replay and Fraps (no FSRecorder) in both Windowed and full screen modes later, but right now I'm off on my motorcycle.

If you were running out of memory you would get an *OOM* (Out Of Memory) error. Has to do with virtual address space. I think the Fatal Error is different.

I just found this ---- haven't read it yet, will do so later:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-gaming/win-7-64-bit-fsx-fatal-error-ctd-restart/14fc20fa-9dca-465b-be42-146414087ec5

I recognize *UIautomationcore.dl* from the AVSIM Forums and will look that up over there as well.

I don't know why, I was on approach to KDEN today and I went to views - ATC and that caused a fatal error. I haven't been able to complete a whole flight for a week.

I wasn't flying a CS aircraft so, for my machine, it's anything that will cause it to crash. Even the default planes.  :(

** Windows 7 Users ** Download this guys if your searching for the correct version to stop the CTD via menus in FSX.

http://www.mediafire...7ejydmradza5p8vRegards Steve.

Just drop it into your Main FSX root folder. :)

IF you are running W7 this should fix the crashes when you are using the drop down menus in FSX. I haven't tried it yet but I am going to.

Okay, try this direct link to MediaFire:

http://www.mediafire.com/?7ejydmradza5p8v

Also, if you haven't done so, go into the control panel (Windows 7) and turn off the *User Account Control*. Drag the slider to it's lowest position. This feature also interferes with FSX.

This link worked for me. Thanks Bruce.

You're welcome!

I did place that file in my FSX folder, but haven't used FSX yet. Will try to give it a good workout this afternoon.

The UAC turnoff was part of Nick Needham's Windows 7 setup guide. I have had it turned off since I got my new rig with W7.

I just finished a short flight (CYYZ to KBOS) and I used the drop down menu multiple times without any problems, it looks good to me. I finally finished a flight  :D

AC Guy --

I just finished a flight also with no crashes. I switched views frequently using the drop down menus while replaying an FSRecorder frc file and ---- NO CRASHES!!! I guess it works!!

Also, you should update your Visual C++ Runtime Libraries.  Start with 2005 32 bit( then 2005 64 bit if you run that type of OS ), then do 2008 32 bit( then 64 bit ) and then 2010 32 bit( then 64 bit ); in that order.  Then update your DirectX.  That should solve alot of issues right off the bat.

Where should this .dll file be used and installed to?

Just place it in the FSX root folder, probably by default:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X
