Title: 4.4 or 4.6?
Post by wims on Feb 9th, 2012 at 2:16am
Hello,
I have recently reinstalled FSX and I havent installed CS757 yet. I am wondering about whether I should install v4.4 or v4.6. I'm kinda leaning towards 4.4, as I can use the workaround to make the FMC calculate the T/D point. But I'm not entirely sure. Does anybody know any strong reasons why I should install v4.6 instead of v4.4?

Stay on 4.4!
I tested 4.6 many hours out and there are many problems with 4.6 and no 4.4.

Example of problems in version 4.6:

- T/D-Point is gone and the "trick" of 4.4 is no longer working.
- Fuel consumption of the 757-200 models are wrong.
- If you Load your fuel after the aircraft is loaded, you can not use the autpilot-knob for SPD/IAS longer.
- Vnav descent calculation is poor.

If you choose to try v4.6, DO NOT delete the 4.4 installers, but keep them for just in case you want to go back to v4.4 if 4.6 doesn't work for well you.

IMO, despite several problems well known, B757 Version 4.4 is still the best option! Keep using it!

I know that this might be described as trying to beat a dead horse, but I still say that if Captain Sim would have not told us to delete 4.4 all together when they came up with 4.6, many customers wouldn't be so upset. I think that for the sake of customer relations, they should have had an option where if you did delete 4.4, to give you an opportunity to download it again for safe keeping. I think more people are upset with this than with the fact that there are things that are still not working right. And then to say that 5.0 will not be a free upgrade, that has anger even more people, and even turned them off from buying any  other Captain Sim product. I think the business smart thing to do is to take care of your current customers, and they will keep coming back. You don't and they will turn away.

Personally, like Markoz,I always keep all versions I have downloaded, regardless of instructions to the contrary.
I guess we determine if the new bugs are worse than the old bugs ;D
But,new buyers don't have that choice.
I guess CS have removed the old versions from their servers.
Maybe that is a shame, but it would probably be a headache for CS to have two or more versions available.Just imagine the cries of woe from newbies. :'( :'(

Yeah I can see them not supporting an old version, but having the old one available for download doesnt seem like much of an issue to me

The instruction don't actually say anything about deleting the installers from previous versions. Only to uninstall it completely:

Quote:
4. Uninstall everything from previous versions of the 757 Captain family.
(Start> Programs> Captain Sim> 757 Captain> )

5. Install* the 4.6 in the following order:
- Base Pack (csp751_4600.exe)
- 757-300 (csx753_4600.exe) or 757 Freighter (csx754_4600.exe)
* - The 4.6 will overwrite previously installed freeware liveries and/or other modifications of the original product. Prior to uninstall the product please backup all data added to the original product.

See. Nothing about deleting the installers. Uninstall and delete mean two different things. Uninstalling the 757 Captain doesn't delete the installer either, it stays behind. Then it says to install using the csp751_4600.exe, csx753_4600.exe and csx754_4600.exe. This is why I never delete my previous versions.
