Happy new 2012!

I've just read that some folks have serious trouble entering the CS forums because of the captcha code needed. I first thought that they need new glasses, but then.  :o

I mean, those a really hard to read and I'm not wishing for some new bots to arrive in the CS forums. So maybe there's a way to alter the captcha process a bit, to still allow some bot blocking (which will surely need some other countermeasures too, like IP ranges and things) but also some new members to join. Maybe even the ones with the weak eyes.  :-/

If new bots would arrive, I would wish for some that offer kitchen utilities. Maybe they have some neat ideas running, my girlfriend would surely be pleased.  8-)

Occasionally it's not bots posting--there have been some actual human members that have posted spam, as I'm sure you know. I wonder what some other forums do to avoid this... I don't seem to see spambots there (but that could be because they have a large amount of admins who can keep watch).

I think ReCaptcha is supposed to be a pretty good one... maybe CS should use that.

I've seen hieroglyphics that were easier to read than the letters in this code that one has to enter. Sheeze! It took me over half an hour to finally join the site after going through at least a dozen tries at reading that darn code and finally getting it right. It didn't end there though:  when I got the confirmation email and clicked the link I got an error message saying that my domain was invalid or, or something like that. Pasted the link in my browser and still got the error msg. I finally came back to the site here, pasted the link in my browser once again, and to my surprise it worked! If that last attempt had failed I would have just given up. Now my eyes are all glazed over and I'm seeing dots from trying to focus on those barely recognizable letters in the code. I hope Capt Sim gets some other means of validatiion 'cause this current setup is the pits. Anyway, glad to be here...finally!

I agree. Before when I needed support I tried to get it right like 10 times, now finally I was lucky and got it right with maybe 4th try.


These codes are big joke, during my history of internet using I have never seen this hard and non user friendly codes anywhere else, and I doubt that they are any better against bots than much easier ones.

o my gosh, I just spent quite a few tries this morning trying to get the captcha for lost password.  I eventually gave up, I tried again this afternoon on a different computer / screen thinking I will definitely get it right, but I still could not.  

I was just writing support for help, but fortunately, I realized my password manager had two ids for CS and finally I got in ok.  

It's (sort of) funny to read how much trouble some of you folks had. But it's even better to see that you finally succeeded.  :)
