As for finding stations, I usually use the CIVA INS when flying ConcordeX.  For the standard routes all of the DME update VOR's are pre assigned so you know when to update.  When flying other aircraft without this luxury the best way is to click on MAP function and find a VOR that is nearby and tune it in.  Best to find one ahead of you on your path so you can update as you fly to it and away from it thereby getting up to 400 miles of updating.
