Title: Landing lights & Glideslope
Post by Antonio P on Oct 27th, 2011 at 8:05am
Hi Everybody:

Im flying my 763 with Flight Keeper for VA purposes. I'm having some problems because I am bieng banned for things I am doing properly. For eaxample:

Landing lights off during Takeoff                                          | -5,0%
Landing lights off below FL100                                             | -5,0%
Landing lights on above FL100                                              | -5,0%
Landing lights off below FL100                                             | -5,0%
Aircraft below Glideslope (Soft Alert)                                     | -7,5%
Landing lights off during touchdown

I always switch on-off landing lights with the light panel switches. On the other hand I've noticed that "Ctr+L" doesnt move these switches as in other aircraft happens.

I dont understand either the problem with GS, since I followed published STAR (For Barcelona ILS rwy 25R) with active ATC at that moment. Any known solution?

Thanks.

Regards.

Hi, Antonio.
With FS Flight Keeper there are certain things which could explain problems. First, it can only watch those items it knows about. These are mainly FSX default commands and status items.
With that in mind, anything e. g. working differently on the switches and their status may mix up FSFK as it still thinks that you e. g. have the landing lights on, although you've turned them off.

You may see and get this on some other planes too, with other commands like the seatbelts for example.
So it would be a thing of making sure that FSFK is able to identify the status of the lights on the CS plane. I haven't used FSFK that much and deeply to help you there. I can only say that all custom commands on planes usually mix up the flight critique section quite a bit.
Maybe the author of the program or the manual can help you on the status and tweaking of the flight critique section. The author is very friendly and helpful and runs a dedicated forum. Maybe another CS pilot already found a solution and posted it.

The 'below glideslope' thing derives when flying with a certain glideslope offset for a defined amount of time. If that was a manual landing, you may try again. If automated ones (autoland) give you that warning, one would have to investigate further though.

I hate FSFK because it always tells me I'm a lousy pilot! Although I probably am a lousy pilot, do I really need some computer program to keep telling me that at the end of each flight?

OK. Now I have that off my chest, on with your problem.

I don't recall having a problem with landing lights before. Maybe I never looked. After the update to v3.2 I had it starting when I started FSX, but I turned it off and don't use it much any more - see above ;)

I load it up and do a short hop to see what it tells me about lights and stuff for the CS 767.

Wait .. FSFK tells us three guys that we are lousy pilots? I think there's some conspiracy going on!  :o

I understand, after the explanation given By CoolP, that maybe landing lights in CS don't work as in other AC. In fact another program used by VAs like FS airlines, has a special shortcut for this issue.

What I realy can not undersand is the issue regarding Glideslope.

Thanks indeed for your help.

Hi Antonio.

I finally got around to doing a flight with the Captain Sim 767-200, which uses the same VC and gauges as the 767-300, and here is the result:

No issues found
ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ
Total Score for this flight                                                | 100.0%
Landing rating                                                             | Moderate
Pilot rating                                                               | Excellent

Firstly, this is with FSFK v3.2.

I was using CTRL+L to turn the landing lights ON and OFF. In the CS 767 this does flip the switches for the landing lights as well, so I'm not surprised. If I just use the switches, I'm not sure if it is the same. There is a line in the EVENTS column that lists which lights are on:

Lights    NAV|BCN|STROBE|INST|LOGO|CABIN   12.50   16,842   267   11550 - Landing lights OFF event

Lights    NAV|BCN|LAND|STROBE|INST|LOGO|CABIN   14.39   10,195   242   10450 - Landing lights ON event

The |LAND| kept appearing/disappearing when I used CTRL+L so it worked fine. I got no warnings at all about the Glideslope. I did some testing and found that it detects the light switches in the VC and a new Lights event would appear when I turned the lights ON or OFF using the switches. So this tells me it is working fine. I do not fly VA online. I signed up with one, but I have never done an online VA flight.

First of all, congratulations for your excelent report!!! ;) ;D

My 767 is a basic 767-300. I may forget to switch on-off, above-below FL100, but Im sure I did switch them on using VC switches while entering the rwy for t/o.
Nevertheless, since FK allways detects Ctrl+L I will use the shortcut.

Regarding GS, I'm still confused since I followed the STAR procedure and used the autoland feature.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Antonio.

I did a couple of test flights in the 767-300/200 and found that FSFK detected my turning the landing and taxi light switches (it displays |LAND| and |TAXI|). So I don't need to press CTRL+L to trigger the them.

I have FSX installed on a separate drive (I:\Flight Simulator X) and FS Flight Keeper 3.2 is installed in C:\FS Flight Keeper. If you have it installed in C:\Program Files (C:\Program Files (x86)) then that could be part of the cause of your problems IF you are using Vista or Windows 7. If you do use one of those Operating Systems, you could Right Mouse Click on the FSFK shortcut, select properties and in the Compatibility Tab, check (place a tick in the box) the "Run this program as an administrator", which could solve your problem.

Note: FSFK did not notice that I forgot to arm the spoiler on the flight that it gave me a 100% rating! :-[

Hi Again:

I have W7 and run FK over C:\ in administrator mode. FK is not perfect, but it is used by my VA to check if can fly a specific AC properly before I can fly "regular flights" within FS airlines. The main parameter examined is Landing vertical speed (max -200 ft/min allowed), minimum FOB once landed and others.

I'll keep trying though. 8-)

Regards.

Just tested again (with the new version). Ive noticed that Ctr+L does have efect on the plane (you can see de landing ligths from outside) and FK, but doesnt move 2D light panel switches, although I think it does for the VC switches. Could there be a problem with the 2D panel?

I've been flying other airports and noticed that the GS only arises in LEBL, so it could be any issue related with the scenery. Will check that.

Thanks again for your help.
