Yep. Just tested it. After my FPS had dropped from 20 to 8, I turned off AI, and it proceeded to drop to 7. :-/
Have you checked for heat issues as the i7 will throttle down if it gets to hot. As you have a pre built PC the cooling might not be that great.
I took your advice on this and downloaded a hardware performance monitor. You can see the graph at the bottom. The four jagged lines are my four processor cores, and the yellowish-orangeish smoother line is my GPU Core. You can see the normal temperatures at the start of the graph. Oh, and that first little dip is when I paused FSX, and the second is right after I exited FSX.
