Actually American Airlines hasn't even confirmed a 'firm' order of the Boeing 787-9, their only interest variant. Delta didn't order late, they aquired their orders fron the 2007 NWA-Delta merger. NWA had a delivery slot of 3rd or 4th (i.e. late 2011 or early 2012) but they were only slots, not paid for like ANA and Japan Airlines had, so Delta pushed back orders for them; teh 767s are their bulk and work fine.

Technically Delta has never purchased Airbuses new, they operated A310s from Pan Am with Pan Am piltos in 1994 and ended in 1996, seeing no need for them. Northwest was in the process of going all-airbus except for the 787 before the merger. Delta I guess decided that they'd rather have more 777s, and not spend the money on a 787 they didn't fit into their plans...

Do they have a bunch of 777s on order?

Delta has 18 and all orders fulfilled. Apparently the buzz was they'd convert orders to 777 but they didn't...

I heard from my dad (he is an American employee) that American does have a confirmed order. Confirmed for 42 with options for 58 more.

Whether they can afford to take delivery, I don't know

If you check Boeing's website you'll see that there are no firm orders

All I said was Maybe they like their Airbuses too much.  I never said anything about Delta purchasing the Airbuses. Delta acquired them through taking over other airline companies. So I was referring to the ones that they now have. ;)

Interior design is totally different than 1996. It was the dreamline and now it has come true. :D

i don't know about you im exited to see thomson's new 787 in january  ::) european launch of the 787!  :D
