Title: Changing default starting aircraft
Post by NNewcomb on Jul 25th, 2011 at 12:04am
Does anyone know of a way to change the aircraft the appears when the FSX starting screen appears? Normally it is the Air Creation Ultra Light Trike. Anyone know if there's a way to change that?

Look around in the fsx.cfg file. There might be something in there.

Can you give me the directions to the FSX.cfg file?

%AppData%\Microsoft\FSX

The percentage signs allow you skip through a whole lot of folders (it's something like C:\Users...blah blah blah, actually, but if you use the %s, you don't need to type that all in).

Thanks, but I couldn't find anything regarding it in there.

The only way I now of is to open the default starting flight, chose the plane you want and save the flight (you can also change the location if you wish) but before you save click the check box at the bottom readin g "Save as default flight" or something along those lines.

Okay, cool I'll check that out.

You save a flight you want eg: make a Delta 757 at ATL with weather fair and the sytem time, and save it. There should be a box on the bottom of the save window that asks if you would like to make this your default flight, check the box and when you reload FSX it will be your new default flight.

Hi Peter.

It is not recommended to create a default flight using an advanced third party add-on aircraft. This is because if you have other developers advanced add-on aircraft (which most of us do) it will cause FSX to crash (fatal error or CTD) when it loads. It is best to use a simple default FSX aircraft, like the Trike or C172, to avoid this from happening.

When I switch from one advanced add-on to another, I always select one of the default aircraft first, load it, then go and select the next advanced add-on I want to fly and load it. This works 9 times out of 10, on that one where it doesn't work, I get an FSX fatal error. I do this even if I am switching from two different Captain Sim aircraft to avoid this problem because I have had it happen when switching between, for example, the CS757-200 and CS767-300.

What about a simple freeware aircraft?

BTW: Congrat's on Australia Tour de France win with Cadel Evans

Thanks for mentioning that, Mark! I'm going to switch back to the normal settings because I've had fatal errors before and the make me so angry.

I've been watching the Tour, it's pretty cool!

Simple freeware might be okay. Give it a try, but IF you start having problems with the more advanced add-on aircraft, switch back to a default FS aircraft.

Thanks for letting me know that Cadel Evans won it, I haven't been watching the Tour de France this year. :-/
