If there was ever a doubt that the B-767 is a much better plane than the MD-80...THIS should end your doubt!
I write this with CoolP in mind! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Lou http://home.comcast.net/~lou.lynn/767.pps |

Pretty funny... ;D
LOU, where did you find the MD-80 "engine sound"? It's awesome. ::) |

Title: Re: Why the B-767 is better than the MD-80 Post by CoolP on Jul 5th, 2011 at 2:34am
Somebody has to do that sound file I guess.
I remember me playing around with some friends talking backwards, recording it and then using the simple Windows recorder or something to then replay it backwards again. The aim was to make it sound normal then, so your backwards talk had to be good and precise. Guess what, it was also very much fun to train such stupid things for some time and then go out talking like that all the time since most of the fellows involved established some very good skills there in hearing and speaking. |

There was a band (I forget the name) that recorded a music video singing backwards as they walked through a city jumping on cars, knocking over trashcans, etc... and then reversed the video so that they were singing the song forwards, but doing all the actions backwards. It was pretty cool.

Are you working on some kind of agenda? DC-10 = Douglas Death Star MD-11 = Newer Death Star The DC-10 and it's stepson -11 are poor copies of the L-1011 Douglass Death Tube If there was ever a doubt that the B-767 is a much better plane than the MD-80...THIS should end your doubt Michael Cubine |

Michael,
Agenda, what agenda?... Just names given by people in the aviation community to various pieces of tin. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck........ ::) Douglas made wonderful planes up to the number 8. Lou |

Title: Re: Why the B-767 is better than the MD-80 Post by CoolP on Jul 5th, 2011 at 9:40pm
Don't worry, Michael, I think the MD drivers had some funny names for the Boeing bunch too.
Ask the guy with the BMW about the Mercedes owners for example. I find Death Star a bit harsh too, as stated above. But hey, Lou even calls "his" old 727 a pig. ;D |

Are you working on some kind of agenda?
What I love hearing from Lou, is the way things were/are seen by the guys at the pointy end of the stick. If Lou says that pilots called the DC-10 the Death Star and the MD-11 Son of Death Star, then why shouldn't I believe him? Douglas made wonderful planes up to the number 8. I thought that the DC-9/MD-80 were quite good, as well as successful, going by the amount of them that seem to be around. But, when all said and done, McDonnell Douglas are not around anymore, except for what Boeing have continued with since buying them out. And regardless of why they called the DC-10 and MD-11 those nasty names, I still have a lot of affection for them anyway. Especially the DC-10. ;) Mark |

Godd afternoon everybody,
Lou and CoolIP, your file is very funny. And thank you very much from a french people because you don't make a match like this between an Airbus A380 and a boeing 787... Have a good day |

Title: Re: Why the B-767 is better than the MD-80 Post by LOU on Jul 6th, 2011 at 3:31pm
Hey you all,
I never bashed Airbus. I think they have a very good product at a good price. Boeing has had some problems in the past, and now they are falling behind with the 787. Each manufacturer has good points and bad. The fact that Airbus is supported by various nations should give them a big hand up in their ventures. I have never flown an Airbus, but have ridden in the cockpit many times. The basic philosophy of Airbus differs from Boeing when it comes to how the pilot interacts with the plane. I think both methods are valid, but I just have more experience with Boeing, so I'm more comfortable in a Boeing plane. The same is true with other plane makers. Lockheed, IMO, made a real pilot's plane. Very well thought out and comfortable for the pilot and passenger alike. Too bad they did not sell more of the L-1011. The engines were a poor match. Convair also made some cool planes, but Boeing planes won out. As for Douglas, I think they started to slip with the DC-8, and continued to slip with the stretching of the DC-9 series. I know they made a lot of MD-80's, but having been in the cockpit too many times and sat in the cramped cabin also, too many times it is not a good customer product. The DC-9 was a great little short leg (one hour) plane. Great for city hopping. When they made it longer and longer, they flew it further and further and I find it a very cramped cabin on a cross country flight. One time, I sat in the back of a stretched DC-8. The load was light so I could see most of the rear cabin. As the plane lumbered down the runway you could see the tops of the seats rolling back and forth like a wet noodle. I just think the plane was much too long! Now, what you've been waiting for - The A-380! ;D All I have to say about it is....it's big. From a passenger standpoint I bet the first class cabin is a trip, but if you're in coach on a full flight I'll bet it will be a mess, not unlike the 747 when it's loaded. For most "older" airports the A-380 is a bit too big. For newer, better designed airports it will do just fine. Remember, it takes the same airspace as a small commuter jet. I tease CoolP and a few of you by calling some of the planes by their "industry" names. It is not meant to be anything but funny. As CoolP said the "industry" always called the 727 - "THE PIG" because of its lack of performance in the climb. The 737 was called "FLUF" or "FAT ALBERT" and the 747 was called the "WHALE." Even ATC sometimes would say..."follow the Whale." And then there is the famous quote: "If it doesn't say Boeing, I'm not going." ::) OK - fire away! Lou |

But the question remains, why does the MD80 sound so cool in that file from Lou and how could they ever run into noise abatement trouble then? :D
About which part were people complaining there? ba ding ding ding ding-a-ding bom bing ding There it is! :P And regarding the A380. I think since it is so silent, the only thing you will hear is that CRJ's engines. ;D |

Actually, despite being a Boeing fan, Airbus makes good planes. There is just something about the company that I don't like. I think it's that they're a little arrogant (even if they have had great success).

Check out this article about the MD-11 crash at Narita - http://avherald.com/h?article=416e7619/0014&opt=0. Maybe an unknown name for the MD-11. See the post by Mad Dog #11 on July 18 2011 at 2050Z Michael Cubine |

Title: Re: Why the B-767 is better than the MD-80 Post by pj747 on Jul 21st, 2011 at 3:10pm
Thats sad that they've lost so many of thoe nice planes. The reason so many MD-11 accidents happen is because the MD-11 has a very hot or fast approach, and manypilots screw it up. Thats why FedEx has lost so many MD-11s. Another thing, last year when I saw the video of that crash from the terminal, I concluded much of it must have been pilot error, when he bounced, the pilot could have easily brought the plane back down, but as you see, the nose was driven into the ground. I think thepilto, for some reason, shoved the stick forward, and thus caused the plane to lose control and crash.

Yup Michael, very sad to read something like that.
Peter, I never got to fly the Convair, just flew in it. The pilots that flew it loved it - it was a fast jet with fairly simple systems. This is just my thought about the 880 & 990... A bit too small of a cabin - not enough PAYload. |

The 757 followed by the 727.
The 767-200 was OK, but the -300 was a good size plane for the mission. The 707 was a busy F/E plane as was the 747. A lot of things would break! :P |

Title: Re: Why the B-767 is better than the MD-80 Post by pj747 on Jul 21st, 2011 at 3:51pm
Being the co-pilot on the 747 or L-1011 would have been the greatest job! Its not your ship to worry about, the FE does all the walkarounds, and if the pilot wants to do all the flying, you sit back and read checklists!
My Dad likes the 757, but likes Delta's domestic 767-300ERs because they have the big powerful engine, and the bigger wings allow for the smoothest and most control. Now all he does is fly Salt Lake City to Paris in the 767-300ER. My dad is waiting, because in two years, he'll never have to set foot in teh Pan AM Worldport again! |
