Title: Re: Altitude Alerter Post by LOU on Jul 5th, 2011 at 4:54pm
Bruce,
I use a number of different graphic programs. I have CorelDraw 12 to do fancy stuff, I also have a free program called Paint.NET ver 3.5.8. I like Paint.NET because it does a pretty good job of screen captures and then I can change size, and doctor the picture for color or brightness and sharpness. I also have the ones Mark uses, but I use Imageshack to up-load the pictures to the forum. This was all we had in the dark ages. This little mechanical yellow triangle was set by rotating the small knob and setting in a minder altitude. In the image below, I have set in 200 feet in both the baro altimeter and the radar altimeter. The baro has no warning at all, just the little yellow triangle. The radar altimeter has a small amber light which comes on as the plane passes through the altitude. Some of the radar altimeters had a rising tone which gave you a little warning as you approached the selected altitude. As you reached the altitude the tone abruptly stopped. There was one on the L-1011 that sounded like a ping pong ball as you neared the selected altitude. On takeoff in the 707, you would set 800 feet AGL in the altimeter. This was the altitude you would level off at and clean-up in the event of an engine failure. Lou Uploaded with ImageShack.us |
