When I was young I used to make them. I had a beautiful DC 3 "Puff the Magic Dragon" (with three side mounted gatling guns) that was given to me by a US Airman who served in Ubon, Thailand, in 1966 when my father was sent there by the RAAF during the War in Vietnam. I also had a nice Skua, Hawker Hurricane, F104 just to name a few. They were not thoe small ones, but the very highly detailed ones and I worked hard at making them look great.
Unfortunately I was a very violent kid (no joke) and by the time I was 16 I had destroyed them all with firecrackers or by setting them on fire with methylated spirits/petrol/kerosine or any other inflamable liquid I could get my hands on. One time I nearly set my brother on fire during one those episodes.
Now I really regret that I destroyed them. I grew out of my terrible violence by the time I was 17. I just wish I had 17 years earlier.
